Beware the ’Bling’!!! When accessories are not your friend!!!
TSK attended a call yesterday, where the car was driven by mum to pick up the daughter, owner of the car.
Daughter finished work and went out to her car and before attempting to drive off, installed her newly purchased and delivered ’bling’, an artificial diamond dress ring that goes around the face of the ignition switch/lock.
Having installed the bling it was now time to go, but the car wouldn’t start!!!???!!
The issue being that the newly installed bling covered the reader of the ignition that detects the transponder chip in the key.
Most modern vehicles contain a transponder chip in their key, the chip talks to the car and tells it ‘Hey, I am the right key, let me start the engine’, if the correct key with transponder the car acknowledges the transponder and allows the engine to start.
Bling was removed and car started.
