Bright Threads

Bright Threads The most colourful table linen on the planet đź’š
I have combined my equal loves of LUXE linen with bright, and bold colour combinations.

Bright Threads is tabletop linen turned on its head - as beautiful, bright, eclectic, textured and mixy matchy as you want it to be. Fond childhood memories, and a passion for entertaining is the inspiration behind creating beautiful tablescapes while playfully mixing patterns and prints. My focus is tabletop textiles - napkins, runners, and tablecloths, aprons and tea towels - and recently I added colourful resin napkin rings.

August escaped me completely, which is perhaps not surprising considering it began with me in Bali about to host the very first Bright Threads retreat and ended with me racing around Sydney on a Lime bike carrying enough gels and drinks to suggest I had escaped from the medic tent.

After nearly four years of thinking, planning and putting all the pieces into place, 14 women arrived in Sanur and the retreat actually happened. We ate, we drank, we printed fabric, we made ceramics, we explored Denpasar, we met the Bright Threads team and we gathered around a lot of tables. Watching a group of women, many of whom had arrived knowing nobody, settle in and genuinely connect was the part I had hoped for most.

From Sanur I headed to Ubud for a recce, leaning into new places, new experiences, new learnings and the early makings of a food focused retreat on Oct 2027. Then it was home and fairly much straight back into the Smashing Plates kitchen, where the catering side of this little business continues to grow almost entirely through word of mouth.

Somewhere amongst all of that, I ran my third half marathon for the year, was offered a gold bond charity place in the 2027 London Marathon and committed to raising £2,500 for the Brain & Spine Foundation in memory of Mum. Then I finished the month in Sydney supporting one of my besties through her own 42.2km and having a fairly significant oh s**t, this is actually what I’ve signed up for moment around the 31km mark.

August was enormous. Bali, Bright Threads, Smashing Plates, running, friendships, new experiences and the feeling that several things I have been quietly working towards are suddenly coming to life all at once. A little chaotic, quite emotional and utterly wonderful! Xx

My push and drive to make things happen has probably clouded my judgement a bit over the years, I must admit. I have always wanted to take things from zero to hero so quickly that I rarely gave myself the time or space to simply flourish and grow from each moment.

That was definitely how I approached Bright Threads in the beginning. When I relaunched it late last year, I knew I wanted things to feel different. I needed my life to be more grounded. I didn’t want the more-is-more life anymore, or to keep trying to force square pegs into round holes. I wanted everything to flow, to fit and to move more organically and freely.

I am still very much a make-it-happen person, the say yes and I’ll figure it out as I go kinda gal - that part of me isn’t going anywhere. I am just getting so much better at knowing when to push, when to pull, when to trust and when to let things unfold in their own time.

Life is a dance between making it happen and letting it happen. And I think I’m finally finding my groove, and gee wizard it feels so good.

She’s just going with the flow my friends x

Bright Threads has never been about churning out as much linen as possible, as quickly and cheaply as possible. Every piece begins with an idea and then passes through many very skilled hands in Bali - mixing colours, printing fabric, cutting, sewing, checking and finishing.

Behind it all is my nearly decade-long friendship with Sandi and the relationships we have built with the people who make Bright Threads possible. I know who printed the fabric, who sewed each piece and how much work went into it before it reached your table.

It may have a slightly wonky edge. The print may not land in exactly the same place twice. Sometimes something ends up in the I’m Not Perfect pile. That is what happens when humans make things.

And honestly, I think knowing that a real person made something you will use around a table full of your favourite people might just be the greatest luxury of all.

This is exactly why I think there is something so powerful about travelling and doing something entirely for yourself.

You can arrive in Sanur as someone’s partner, mum, daughter, boss, employee or the person who normally keeps absolutely everything moving. But for six nights, you get to step away from all of that. You get to try new things, meet new people, eat incredible food, laugh a lot and remember what it feels like to choose something simply because it makes you feel alive.

Let me take care of the itinerary, the transport, the bookings and all the moving parts. You just need to arrive in Bali. Your biggest decision can be whether you have time to sit and enjoy another coffee before we head out for the day.

The next Bright Threads Bali Retreat is in Sanur from 16 - 22 May 2027. If something about it keeps tugging at you, perhaps this is your sign to step outside the comfortable and come join me in 2027.

I have spent a lot of time over the years thinking growth meant Bright Threads needed to get bigger. More orders, more stock, more customers, wholesale, export, a shop, more more more.

Turns out, that is not what my version of success looks like anymore. I want is to keep creating things I love, for people who genuinely love them too. I want enough space in my life and my brain to keep having big, beautiful, fun ideas. And weirdly, adding Seasonal salads. Delivered fresh, made with love. and the retreats into the mix has given me more of that space, not less.

When I’m catering, I disappear into this little zone where I physically cannot answer emails, scroll socials or pick up my phone. I’m chopping, cooking, tasting, plating. My hands are completely occupied and somehow my brain goes absolutely wild. I think about colours, prints, collections, retreat ideas, food, tables, places I want to take people. It is genuinely becoming one of my favourite places to think.

And then there are the retreats. I knew I would love the creative side of building them, but I didn’t realise quite how much joy I would get from hosting them. Bringing people together, looking after them, feeding them, showing them things and places I love and making damn sure they are having a wonderful time. I adore it.

Growth for me now looks different. It is having the opportunity to build this slightly chaotic little world around all the things I love doing - creating, cooking, hosting, colour, food, travel, people and bringing them all together.

And getting to build a business and a life that gives me room to do more of those things feels like a pretty wonderful version of success to me.

Link to the 2027 Retreats are in my bio, I would love you to join me in a week filled with joy! X

I love the early mornings. I love being an early riser, and I genuinely think it is such a privilege to see the sun rise. A good one is truly an excellent way to start the day.

My running buds will tell you, I will just break out mid-run with, “Ladies, look at that. How glorious is that sunrise?” We might be kilometres deep, legs hurting, still a long way to go, and I will still find the joy in an incredible sunrise.

Always. 🌅

The more I say yes to the things that bring me joy, the more of them seem to appear. Travel, colour, food, running, new people, new ideas and doing things that perhaps a few years ago I would have talked myself out of.

Maybe the magic was always there. I am just much better at noticing it now.

And if a week in Sanur filled with colour, textiles, food, creativity and a completely different side of Bali sounds like a little bit of magic you could use, come with me in May. ❤️

I made this Chicken & Leek Pie the other night and, fair warning, this is a pretty s**t reel walking you through the steps… but stay with me because the pie itself is top notch excellent. Recipe below 👇

6 leeks, sliced into rings and sautéed in an outrageous amount of butter. If you’re looking at the pan thinking surely that’s too much butter, double it. That kind of amount.

Add a good splash of white wine (and then pour yourself one too 💅)and cook it out, then add flour to make a roux and cook that out too. Slowly add chicken stock, stirring until it’s thick and delicious, then in goes cream, Dijon mustard, loads of thyme, salt + pepper and one store-bought BBQ chicken, shredded.

Give the whole lot a good stir, then scrunch/twirl sheets of Carême Pastry filo pastry over the top. Brush generously with more butter, sprinkle with sesame seeds - black, white or both - and whack the whole pan in the oven until the filo is golden and crunchy and everything underneath is bubbling.

That’s it. One pan. Store-bought chicken. Zero effort.

The most simple midweek Chicken & Leek Pie and I promise you it tastes heaps better than this s**t video makes it look.

Enjoy my friends x

A little insight into how I checked in with the kids each day while I was running the Bright Threads Retreat in Bali.

No time to call every day, so I would grab five minutes somewhere between everything else, film myself banging on about what I had been up to and send it to the husband to show the kids. Always finished with the important stuff, you know - love you, miss you, be nice to Dad, stop fighting with each other and you better be eating your veggies.

Currently living my best life possible. It’s chaotic, slightly unhinged, there are absolutely not enough hours in the day and I keep adding more to the mix… but I bloody love it.

Turns out I don’t need less chaos. I just needed the right kind.

I’m running the 2027 London Marathon for Mum. Even writing that sentence feels slightly ridiculous, because this time last year I absolutely did not consider myself someone who would run a marathon. But grief can do strange things to you.

I lost my beautiful Mum, Mandy, in May last year after years of watching Progressive Supranuclear Palsy slowly take pieces of her away.

After she died, running became one of the ways I learnt to navigate my grief. It gave me structure when I needed it, something to work towards and, somewhere amongst all those kilometres, I started finding a lot of joy again.

Earlier this year, while one of my besties and I were out on a long run training for yet another event, she casually suggested that maybe we should tackle a marathon in 2027.

At the time I thought we were both thinking of one of the majors - turns out she was thinking of something a little closer to home. My immediate thought was - I’m going to run London. For Mum. I am going to raise as much money and awareness for PSP as humanly possible. And somehow, that slightly wild idea has become very real.

I have accepted a Gold Bond charity place in the 2027 TCS London Marathon , running for Brain & Spine Foundation foundation.

So on Sunday 25th April 2027, I will be standing on the start line in London with 42.2 kilometres ahead of me - and my Mum very firmly on my mind.

The Brain & Spine Foundation supports people affected by neurological conditions, including the rare and devastating ones like PSP. I have committed to raising at least ÂŁ2,500, and I would really love to absolutely smash that target.

This is where I need your help.

If you can donate - whether it’s $50, $100, $250 or something bigger - I would be incredibly grateful. Every donation gets me closer to that £2,500 target and helps support people and families navigating neurological conditions.

And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this post or my fundraising page would mean just as much.

I have already got plenty of fundraising ideas brewing between now and April - some good, some possibly questionable - but for today, this is where it starts.

London for Mandy.
Love you mum x
