Classic door disguised as a bookshelf - I am sure everyone has wanted one of these type of doors as a kid - It was a pleasure to work closely with the client to produce this unique entrance to the study/office.

Diminishing steps Viewbank -This step up to the back yard was quite tricky with the sloping concrete driveway.
I designed a Table in the centre post which separated the steps into a section of 3 steps on the upper side and 4 steps on the lower. This had the function of eliminating the awkward nothing step around the post and provided a nice little bonus table to put your drink on while relaxing on the steps.

Viewbank pergola + Composite deck: before and after feat Cyril and Willow.

The existing pergola was well past its time, once demolished we had an inspection from a curious cockatoo who would drop by periodically to check on progress during the build.

There was a number of issues to address with the build:

- Make a structure which would be enclosed but well ventilated
- Lay a deck over the existing concrete, keeping it low so that would it fit under the door threshold
- Create an undercover area which allows light into the loungeroom windows

I addressed the ventilation first by designing a roof to fly over the existing roof and keep head height and falls realistic.

I made my own system to support the timber above the slab to allow ventilation and water to escape if the area is swamped.

Lastly I installed polycarbonate clear sheets to the roof and a polycarbonate diffuser to form a skylight.

Overall I was really happy with how it turned out and it was a pleasure to produce some details of my own. Thanks to Kay for all the coffee and chats along the way :)

Warburton revisited - I recently took a trip back down to Warburton to work on a little cottage I have worked on here and there for the last 5 years.

It was a pleasure staying for a couple of days and working away on a floating breakfast bar. It felt great to bring an old slab which was rotting away in the shed into the light and give it new life.

Home Office - Design consultation took about an hour where we had a zoom meeting and designed something according to the clients needs in Real-time. This process feels quite collaborative and I am getting quite a bit of joy from this particular work flow.

-Custom 800mm cabinet with Ikea doors.
-Custom matching timber handles
-2 x 900mmx2400 timber slabs cut in half to make desk + shelves. optimising timber usage.
-Bonus floating shelf for extra storage.

Using Ikea doors and readily available timber slabs keeps turn around and cost to a minimum.

Balcony Repair - This balcony had been built with untreated Pine exposed to the elements. This resulted in severe degradation, failure of the structure, multiple points of water ingress and it was in quite the sorry state.

-Dropped deck height to comply with current AS/NZ waterproofing standards.
-Replaced rotted structural beams with Hardwood timber beams.
-Replaced Pine support posts with SHS Gal Steel posts.
-Joist hangers to all joists. (where they previously were only nailed)
-Re-Sheeted with Scyon Secura exterior flooring.
-Plumbed connection through balcony for downpipe.
- Waterproofing by Wet-seal with 7 year warranty.
-New tiles and trim.
-Re-Sheet and timber trim to underside of balcony.

Balconies are never easy or quick with a number of sub trades to work into the timeline pending weather.
Big thanks to Jason for his patience with the process.

Doreen Facade Upgrade -

I was approached to design and quote for facade upgrade.

I first converted the pictures provided to me by the client into 3d models where I was then able to add and subtract visual elements.

While I may have gotten a little carried away along my own path and aesthetic it was good to offer some of my own designs for consideration.

Overall it was a fun design process and while I would have loved to have done more, the project ended up falling in line with the clients budget and expectations.

Material used - Aluminium timber look slats.
