Nestled in the leafy surrounds of Mt Colah on Sydney’s Upper North Shore, this project is a standout example of how safety and style can work hand-in-hand.

Located in a BAL-FZ (Bushfire Attack Level – Flame Zone) area, this home required materials and construction methods that meet the highest compliance standards under the NSW Rural Fire Service Planning for Bush Fire Protection (2019) and AS3959-2018.

Our team worked with our client to not only design a compliant alfresco, but a functional outdoor living space that felt like a natural extension of their home. We designed and constructed a custom insulated skillion alfresco, seamlessly attached to the house, creating a true outdoor room rather than just a covered deck.

The result: A light-filled, protected entertaining zone that completely changes how the family uses their home.

As we begin to gear up towards winter : how do you keep your outdoor space warm in the winter months? 🥶

𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗽𝗶𝘁 - There are so many options & styles now across wood-burning or gas fire pits. Just make sure not to position under your alfresco roofing!

𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 - Opt for an inbuilt patio heater, such as a heat strip. Takes up zero space!

𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗼𝗹𝗮 𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗳 - Add a roof to your outdoor decking, patio or pergola. Again, so many options available - insulated, aluminium louvered roofing, or glass-like polycarbonate roofing.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘀 - These are made from heavy duty materials, such as PVC, & are designed to serve as temporary walls. They even can come in a motorised version for easy use.

𝗢𝘂𝘁𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻 - Install an outdoor oven or pizza oven - a great source of heat in the cooler months when you’re entertaining.

𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗴𝗮𝗽𝘀/𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗲𝘀 - Think: gaps around electrical sockets, plumbing, windows, doors and any other draughty fixtures. Keep a supply of weather-stripping, window caulking & sealant to get those gaps sorted.

𝗖𝗲𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗮𝗻 - On the lowest setting, a fan will push the heat down to keep the room warmer, & will also lower overall heating costs.

At Pergola Land, we also work on commercial projects around Sydney and sometimes beyond. One of those projects was for Collector Wind Farm in the Southern Tablelands.

The Collector Wind Farm is a landmark renewable energy project featuring over 50 turbines. With an annual energy output of approximately 528 GWh, this facility provides enough electricity to power around 80,000 average homes across NSW, making it a major contributor to the state’s sustainable energy goals.

We were engaged to design and construct the connecting walkways for the newly built site offices and warehouse facilities. The brief required solutions that would withstand harsh weather conditions, be long-lasting, and require minimal maintenance, while also complementing the industrial site environment.

For this project, we selected high-quality aluminium framing and Colorbond® roofing, chosen for their durability, strength, and longevity. The aluminium framework provides a lightweight yet robust structure, capable of withstanding the elements and daily use, while the Colorbond® roofing ensures reliable protection against rain, wind, and UV exposure.

The resulting walkways are not only functional and safe, but also visually cohesive, enhancing the site’s professional appearance.

A new backyard patio roof for this family in Epping!

This family home already boasted a large scale outdoor deck situated off their back sliding door - providing easy access for their new enclosed outdoor entertaining area.

Built with our popular multiwall polycarbonate roofing panels and powder-coated steel & aluminium framing.

The pergola roof has been attached to the house with flyover roof brackets, which provides great ventilation for the new space.

Our team recently completed this new pergola addition to a family home nestled in Willoughby.

With an existing raised outdoor decking area, the family wanted to maximise the usability of their outdoor space.

We designed & installed a flat roof multiwall polycarbonate pergola roof, utilising complementary black powder-coated steel and aluminium framing.

The pergola roof is fixed to the house wall at the far end, and sits high enough above the eaves on the side, to allow clear gutter access and airflow.

The polycarbonate roof provides year round protection from the elements - fierce sun in the summer and warmth and protection in the winter, and also looks great!
