When I first started creating custom keepsakes and signage, I thought it was just about having a great design and a clean cut. But over time, I’ve learned that the real magic is in the details you only discover after hours and hours of hands on experience.

If I could go back in time and give my beginner self a few pieces of advice, here is what I would say:

1. Material quality changes EVERYTHING
Not all timber and acrylic are created equal! In the beginning, you try a bit of everything. But I quickly learned that investing in premium, sustainably sourced wood and high-grade acrylic is what makes a sign go from “nice” to a beautiful heirloom piece that lasts for years of play.

2. The “3D Factor” is unmatched
Flat engraving is lovely, but there is something so incredibly special about layered, 3D acrylic lettering. It catches the light, adds beautiful texture, and instantly elevates a child’s playroom or nursery. It takes longer to assemble by hand, but the final look is always worth it.

3. It’s more than a sign, it’s a memory
I used to think I was just making decor. Now I know that when a parent or business orders a custom sign I’m helping them build the backdrop to their core branding memories. That’s a beautiful privilege.

Every single piece that leaves my studio is a result of everything I’ve learned along the way, made with so much love and care. 💖

Running Pink Koala Creations is an absolute dream come true. I get to spend my days creating beautiful, personalised backdrops for your family’s most precious childhood memories. But today, I wanted to step out from behind the laser machine and talk about something on my heart.

As a small business owner, I receive so many beautiful inquiries for custom play signs, keepsakes, and nursery decor. And I love it! I sit down, calculate the materials, and spend time putting together a personalised quote just for you.

But lately, there’s been a lot of silence after those quotes go out.

I completely understand that custom, handmade items are an investment. If a piece doesn’t fit into your budget right now, *that is 100% okay*. There is absolutely no pressure or hard feelings at all!

But what many people forget is that there isn’t a giant automated computer robot on the other side of this account. It’s just me.

When an inquiry goes completely ghosted without even a simple “thank you,” it can feel a little disheartening after pouring time into helping you.

A simple message like, *”Thank you so much for your time, but it’s just out of my budget right now!”* goes such a long way. It closes the loop, shows mutual respect, and reminds us makers that our time is valued.

At the end of the day, a little kindness costs absolutely nothing, but it means the world to a small business. Thank you so much to everyone who always shows up with so much love and respect in my inbox you are the reason I love what I do! 💖
