Second Chances // Tree Bolting & Bracing

Left without intervention, a large split making its way down the trunk of this lovely Golden Ash Tree, would have caused the tree to fail.

To remedy this, the tree was pruned, weight and size reduction, to lessen the overall stress on the weakened trunk.

The split was then closed with three bolts and tension straps.

If you are wondering if this is an option for your tree, please reach out to chat with Richard.

A case of 'way too big for the space' // Tree removal in Moe.

When the location permits, large, healthy trees are one of the most beautiful additions to our homes, gardens and parks.

In the job pictured however, the large cedar trees were eclipsing the home, blocking natural light, effecting piping and causing safety concerns. ⚠️

Tree removal was most fitting for the customers space and goals.

All of our tree services begin with a free onsite assessment with Richard to inspect your trees, and discuss your unique requirements.

A leaking pipe caused this Cedar tree in Warragul to become loose in the ground. Unfortunately it was too unstable and risky to keep. You can see in the photos how close the tree was to the house! 🏑Luckily there is still lots of beautiful greenery around.

Tree removal jobs come in all shapes and sizes! Some are pretty straightforward, but others are much more complex, and require specialised skills and lots of experience.

In this case in Newborough, a large multi-stemed Eucalypt dropped a large branch, landing on the Poplar tree below causing lots of damage. It also took out the surrounding services wires! 🀚🌳

Complications:
- Inevitably the Poplar tree needed to be removed
- Significant rot damage, too hazardous to climb
- Surrounding land was very steep, ruling out cherry picker use.

Instead, the large gum and surrounding trees were used to set the climbers lifeline and rigging equipment. Ratchet straps were also used in the gum to support weight. Using these methods allowed the Poplar to be dismantled safely and efficiently.

The Eucalypt was also weight reduced to mitigate further failure.

We often hear tree lopping used interchangeably with tree pruning or trimming, no doubt you have too.

Although both services involve the removal of parts of the tree, there is a significant difference in how this is carried out.

Tree lopping as the name suggests, will simply cut out branches, or parts of the tree without taking into consideration the trees healthy, safety, or aesthetics.

πŸ‘‰ Tree lopping is actually an outdated practice that doesn't meet Australian Arboriculture Industry standards!

A tree that is cut or lopped, without using correct pruning techniques is left vulnerable to disease, structural decay, and unsafe growth.

Whereas, careful pruning will allow a tree to heal, and promote healthy new growth. πŸ’›

Pictured 🌳: Previously lopped tree in Moe. The size and comprised condition of this tree were posing a significant hazard. The crew removed it, and the stump was ground away.

Happy Arborist Appreciation Day!! Thank you for all you do to keep trees healthy, beautiful and safe 🌱🌳🫢

And a special thanks and hats off to Richard, head arborist and director. One of the first Drop & Leave apprentice arborists way back in 2013!

A llittle Q & A with Richard:

🌳 How old were you when you started your apprenticeship? 17
🌳 Best part of being an arborist? Being outdoors
🌳 Most challenging: Consistency of high risk work
🌳One of your most memorable tree jobs?
A tree removal in Glenmaggie. The tree was on a hill and overhangingl water. Very technical, lots of rigging involved, and it was a hot day. A challenge overall!
🌳 Favouite trees: Japanese Maple, English Okay, Birch, Mmooth Barked Apple Myrtle
(that was just a start, a number of tree names followed)

Mountain Grey Gum // Major Pruning

Due to size and poor health, it's often advisable to remove Eucalypts trees that pose too great a risk to homes and the safety of the occupants.

So when it is possible, the crew love having the opportunity to work with big beautiful trees that can be maintained and saved!

This Mountain Grey Gum in Erica was given some much needed TLC so it can continue to be enjoyed. 😌🌳

This included dead-wood pruning, (removal of the three 'D's, dead, dying or diseased branches), and weight reduction pruning, including the removal of large lateral limbs that were overhanging the home.

πŸ“Œ No two trees and their surroundings are the same.
We offer tailored tree care and removal solutions.

Bifurcated Red Gum, Stratford // Failed Tree Removal

This is a clear example of a tree that has a problematic co-dominant stem.

If you swipe through, you will be able to see some interesting photos that show where the tree developed included bark. You can also see that the trunk flares out, indicating the weakness! 🫠

Normally tree stems grow in unison. When they don't unifyying as they should, there is a compression between the stems causing weakness. This particular defect, can cause decay, and often results in failure.

In this case the tree was clearly too far gone and the crew removed it.

Sometimes the tree can be saved!

For younger trees, formative pruning can ensure that the defect doesn't develop.

Older trees, species and conditions depending, the tree can be pruned for weight reduction. Bracing/bolting is another option!

Did you know that two trunks in some tree species is an issue?
