Did you know that the secret to keeping Redlands beautiful and flood-free is right under our feet?

🌧️🌿It’s called WSUD (Water Sensitive Urban Design), and as your new local stormwater experts, we want to share why keeping these systems healthy is so important for our community. 🤓👍🏼

When heavy rain hits our suburbs, concrete roads and roofs create massive amounts of fast-moving runoff.

Without a well-maintained WSUD system, two major things happen:Localised Flooding:

Water backs up quickly, threatening yards, driveways, and homes.

Water Pollution: Toxic runoff—like oil from cars, garden fertilisers, and litter—gets washed straight into our local creeks and beautiful Moreton Bay. 🐬🚫

How a healthy WSUD system protects us:

Slows the Flow:
Engineered wetlands, rain gardens, and bioswales catch heavy deluges.
They act like a sponge to prevent flash flooding in our streets.

Natural Filters:
Specialised plants and soil layers trap nasty pollutants and debris, cleaning the water before it reaches our waterways.

Boosts Wildlife:
Clean, well-maintained systems keep our local ecosystem thriving and beautiful.Over time, these systems get clogged with silt, weeds, and rubbish.
When they block up, they stop working entirely.

As the new business in town, “Redlands EnviroScapes” is here to ensure our community's infrastructure is clean, clear, and ready for any storm.

We specialise in inspecting, clearing, and maintaining WSUD systems for residential developments, commercial properties, and bodies corporate.

Let’s work together to keep Redlands safe from floods and our waterways pristine! 💦

Every wondered why some lakes turn green/blue after wet weather❓ The most common reason — the “nutrient buffet” (aka algal blooms).

🌧️ When it rains heavily, that water can pick up nitrogen and phosphorus before running into lakes. These nutrients are like rocket fuel for cyanobacteria (also known as blue-green algae). And under the right sunny, warm conditions? ☀️ They multiply fast!

Because these organisms contain chlorophyll (green) and phycocyanin (blue), they turn the lake into a vibrant soup.

Some blooms can produce toxins. If toxin concentrations get too high, we may close our lakes to water-based recreation until concentrations come back down again.

Our teams monitor water quality closely and regularly assess for recreational health-based risks. If you ever spot that green, paint-like look on the water:
