Advice for the home handyman if you want to attempt a skylight install.

1. DONT glue a flexible metal flashing over your corro roof. Especially crossing an overlap. You'll see why in the pics .
2. DONT ever use a grinder, you could've burnt your customers house down.
3. DONT forget to turn up the bottom of the corro. It'll save you a bucket of silicone.
4. DONT use any glue on the lower side of the flashing, water has to go somewhere, and it'll save the next tradie over an hour removing it.
Otherwise leave the job to the professionals, we use superior materials and we know how to do the job properly.

What blew me away with the above job, it wasn't installed buy a home handyman.

This old skylight was installed 25 or more years ago, but time to go.
It had been leaking for quite some time, timber members rotting around it and most components have degraded to a point where the skylight wasnt performing all that well.
First two pics are the original.
Last two are the total replacement including roof repair and good for the next 30+ years.

The client said this expensive brand skylight had leaked from day one. Admittedly it was installed by a tradesman, but not a skylight expert. I can't believe the mess around the roof flashing in his attempt to stop the leak. All the more trouble to remove this horrible mess to get it right.
The job was eventually rectified, leak free with a very happy customer.

Was it worth saving $50? This poor lady was at her wit's end after her newly installed skylight started leaking. The business she chose was $50 cheaper than mine so obviously she went with the cheaper quote.
After losing a night's sleep and a day's work because of the original installer wouldn't/couldn't fix the leak she rung me out of desperation. I was on my Christmas break but I thought, what the heck, this lady needs help.
It took a while but eventually the leak was found. After telling her there's no charge, it's Christmas, I think I made her day.
Haha, pic 2 shows how someone thought it was a good idea to install a plastic "dam" around the skylight ceiling frame to catch the rainwater after it entered the roofspace.
