Let me explain how to do it properly:

1. Fertilize the lawn (and weeds) and get it actively growing with a good quality lawn fertilizer and water it in.
2. Apply a selective herbicide to the entire lawn area as recommended on the label.
3. Watch the weeds die and the lawn grow into the areas left open from dead weeds.
4. Receive compliments from your neighbors on how good your lawn looks.
