Does your spa smell a bit like wet dog? 😅🐶💦

Not exactly the relaxing backyard retreat you had in mind, hey.

That musty, funky smell is usually your spa’s way of telling you something is off with the water — and no, it’s not something you should just ignore and hope disappears.

The common causes are usually:

🦠 Bacteria building up in the water
🧪 pH or sanitiser levels being out of balance
🚿 Biofilm hiding in the pipes, jets or filter
🧹 Dirty filters holding onto old oils and residue
💧 Water that needs shocking, cleaning or refreshing

Because spa water is warm, bacteria and organic build-up can move pretty quickly — especially in Brisbane’s humidity.

So if your spa smells musty, sour, swampy, or like the family dog after a rainy walk… it’s probably time to test the water, clean the filter and get the chemistry back where it should be.

After a full week of rain, grey skies, soggy yards and pools getting absolutely hammered… this is your Sunday reminder to go and actually look at your pool. 😂

Because rain does not just “top the pool up”. It dilutes chlorine, washes dirt and organic matter into the water, fills baskets, messes with pH, and gives algae the perfect little window to start causing trouble.
And this is exactly how a pool goes from “it was fine last week” to “why does it look like a farm dam?” very quickly.

💚 Green pools love rainy weather — especially when chlorine drops and the pump is not keeping up
💦 Recovery takes a proper process — treatment, filtration, brushing, vacuuming and water balancing
🧪 Water testing comes first — because guessing with chemicals usually costs more in the long run

It is not magic. It is just the right products, the right process, and knowing what the water is doing before you start throwing everything in the shed at it. 😂

**Is heating your pool in a Brisbane winter actually worth it? 🔥💦**

Because let’s be honest… Brisbane doesn’t exactly do “proper winter”.
