Kath and I often walk around Alex Goudie Park in Drouin. Most of the trees have a little sign giving the name and some details. This one caught my attention a few days ago. Not a tree I'm familiar with. It is a "Judas Tree" and should give lots of pink flowers in Spring. Will keep an eye on it as most other non-natives are shedding their leaves.

Just got round to sorting my "Bright" photos (employment interrupted) and thought I'd share flower photos. See if you can identify these - I'll post answers in a few days. Peter G

Just recovering from three great days in Bright and surrounds. Could not believe how good the weather was. Here's some photos from Joy to give you an idea of what we saw. Autumn colours were stunning. Anne and Ian and Peter W and Annette W did the initial recce and ... in practice it worked! Our thanks go to all who played a part, especially to the members of Bright Garden Club and others who opened their wonderful gardens to us. I don't have time to put Bright photos into next meeting (Monday 25th May) but will have something ready for the next newsletter and meeting.
Cheers Peter G

Had a full newsletter this month, so wasn't able to fit the following in.
The first two pictures were taken in Rob & Heather’s garden. Apparently, Stinkhorn Mushrooms grow commonly around this area.

Stinkhorn mushrooms are fungi in the family Phallaceae known for their rapid growth, ph***ic or star-like shapes, and foul odour. Appearing suddenly in gardens and mulch during warm, wet weather, they produce a slimy, dark spore mass, or "gleba," that smells like rotting meat or sewage to attract flies for spore dispersal

Although stinkhorn fungi look like they are from Mars, they are not poisonous, and touching or handling them is safe.
Thanks to Ralph for his info on the stinkhorn.
Kath and I spotted the Fly agaric in Goudie's Park - quite a few there.

Looking autumnal at Alex Goudie Park, Drouin (next to the Royal Hotel). Lots of very nice trees and hordes of ducks at the moment. Also, if you are into oaks, quite a few acorns being shedded. I'm not generally a fan of non-natives, but oaks are great for shade and don't tend to drop limbs.

On our trip to cairns a couple of weeks back, I was amazed at the plant life on everywhere, not just at our hotel. Streets have huge bushes of glorious colour - especially variegated varieties. One plant I bough for daughter in Warragul last year is about 200mm high, in Cairns - huge bushes. First four are crotons, then a beach spider lily, a copperleaf and a Calidium bi-colour (I think). More to come. If I've mis-identified, feel free to comment.
