The ultimate weekend of butchery, charcuterie making and slow cooking, with a pork themed degustation at Hogget Kitchen!

The Big Pig Weekend is a highly anticipated event, booking out year after year.

The ultimate nose-to-tail charcuterie and pork cookery experience over two days…

DAY ONE will focus on breaking down the pig, basic butchery, terrine making and preparation for the following day of sausage and salami making.

In the evening enjoy a shared table at and be treated to Chef Trevor Perkins renowned house-made charcuterie and terrines and a selection of dishes using many cuts of pork cooked using different methods.

On DAY TWO, you will a day of making homemade salumi, n’duja and sausages. The day will be spent seasoning and filling a variety of sausages and salami and discussing the finer points of air drying and curing at home.

Twelve years ago, today, on Monday 28th April 2014, we arrived to opened String & Salt for our first day of trade. Hanging on our door, we were greeted by a little gift. A small carved elephant, it's trunk raised for luck, with a simple note wishing us good fortune for our new business.

A simple gesture. But a gesture far more powerful than the gifter may have every realised.

Someone believed in us. Someone wanted us to suceed. Someone cared.

The sense of nervousness eased.

Then customers came through the door. They wanted to buy things. They spent their money with us. They trusted us. They believed in us too.

Twelve years later, so much has changed. There has been so many ups and downs. So many cuts and bruises. So many little successes and wins. So many times of doubt and fear...but one thing has never changed.

Every single day since that first day, when we have opened our doors, our community has continued to walk through them and continued to support our business and the things that we do and offer.

So on this day, our 12th birthday, it is a good day to say thank you...but we are truly thankful every single day, for every single customer who chooses to spend their money with us...from a small bag of spices, to your dream cooker, to booking a place at a class. Without you, we would not be here today. Thank you.

We would also like to recognise our amazing friends and family who have always had our backs...been our muscles to move things; held paint brushes and rollers; lent hands to build things to help us save money; looked after the girls to make life easier; or were just there to offer a shoulder and an ear. Thank you for believing in us.

Our staff...all 57 of you...we are so incredibly grateful for your effort and commitment. Every single one of you has treated our business like more than just a job. We could not ask for more. We couldn't do it without you. Thank you.

And that little elephant...it still gives us strength every day. It reminds us that people care. That our community cares. That someone believed in us way back then and we owe it to them to give it our best shot.

We're super proud to have our site recognised at this year's Farm World - Lardner Park

Farm World is our biggest event of the year...month's of preparation, 2 weeks to build our site and a week to pack up...thank you to all our friends, family and staff who helped out. Renovating? Building? Upgrading the kitchen? Our annual String & Salt Home Expo is back at Farm World - Lardner Park 2026 at Lardner Park this Thursday, Friday & Saturday.

We have cookers, ovens, cooktops, rangehoods, smokers, grills and salumi cabinets on display with heaps of super deals, specials and floor stock sales available.

This year we have added some friendly competition between our Italian and British brands. Pop into race Team Bertazzoni's Ferrari against Team Falcon's Aston Martin on the S&S RC Circuit...it's a free activity for kids and big kids alike.

There's also smoking/grills demos and tatsings on our Kamado Joe and Masterbuilt smokers.
And salami and kransky demos with CLEAVER Salumi Cabinets.

Find the S&S Home Expo at the heart of Farm World in the Lardner Park Event Centre (the big white building on the hill).
