Screws N Petals turns 5 🥳🎉🎉
Sitting around aussie day weekend with my brother and friends having drinks in their garage I made the spontaneous decision to start a business.
Was this even doable, was this a crazy idea. Yes and yes. But as we all sat there brainstorming a business name and drawing logos old school style on paper, I starting to have fear doubts. Nah I can't do this, this is a silly idea. But with the encouragement from my friends and brother Neil along with another glass of bubbles 🍾🥂 I was all in.

I was hearing and seeing too many elderly people being ripped off by tradies. Women who were the victims of DV that feared having male tradies around them. So with these reasons in my head, I had found my WHY and wanted to do my part to correct this indifference.

I was going to go with Petals n Screws home services. I thought it had a more feminine sound.
PnS as opposed to SnP, But as my brother pointed out to me. He was the reason it changed to Screws n Petals cause he said "say pns again Rach, I said pns home services, he said say it again so I did, pns home services".

I didn't get what he was doing. Then he said it faster and over again and then I heard it.

I finally got what he was saying. Thanks bro screws and Petals it was. Along with bunna and adz and the home garden Handy'mam was born. My brother was so excited for this business and was super keen to come and help me on some jobs and bring all his cabinetmaker skills along.
I had worked with my with in his business over the years and was looking forward to pairing up for some jobs in my business, but just 3 weeks later he would suddenly and expectedly pass away and on the day before we would work our first job together under my business,but I know he is spirituality with me on this journey.

As i sit here and reflect on the past 5 years. l pinch myself with what I have achieved and what I've produced for clients.
There has been alot and highs and alot of lows, especially in that 1st year.
You start out with excitement but also alot of fear in the back of your head.The fear of failing, the fear of will i get work from clients, will i make enough money to pay mortgage, and then at the same time trying to deal with Neil's death on top of that, when I just wanted to collapse and escape but I couldn't. You just have to push the fear aside, rise above and back yourself. Don't ask me how to deal with a death at the same time cause I'm still trying to deal with it and I miss him everyday.

I want to thank you to everyone who has supported me on this journey be it with your kind words, your business, you sharing my business posts, you hitting the like and follow buttons or recommending me to people you know. You have all played a huge role in my sucess and I am beyond humbled by the kindness. Here is to seeing what the next 5 years will bring.

Constructed this garden using charcoal miniwall garden blocks, filled with some premium organic soil and dressed in Cypress red woodchip blend. Backfilled in an old garden bed with wintergreen couch turf and a sprinkle of top dress where needed to level it off. Material from the great guys at Upper Coomera Landscape Supplies

How I'm.spending my.long weekend. Digging the garden, hoping to find the leak so I don't have to call in a water detection person, which is different to a plumber. If I can find the leak then my plumber can just put the joiner on it. I can do that part myself but for warranty and insurance protection always use a qualified plumber for any plumbing needs

Cleaning and tidying up these monster trees. I just gave it a little prune 🤣 using my 4.5m pole chainsaw alongside my smaller chainsaw and my trusting ladder 🪜.
My arms definitely got a workout holding the 23kg unit in the air all day cutting.
My client wanted the whole trees gone, but the husband didn't, so we settled on this.
Who says you need an arborist when you have an aunty Rach with a pole saw.
