Some wins and losses in the garden this summer. These are just a few of the wins with many more plants that have thrived under trying conditions. Thank god for a cooler weather this week!

Gardening on water restrictions in an already dry climate can be done. Here’s what I’ve learnt so far over the past 3 months of summer…..

Style is personal and articulates so many things.

Mine is simple, unfussy, natural which blends elements of my love of the outdoors via colour and texture. It evolves and flows depending on the season and the house style but the foundations remain the same.

What’s your style?

The new year brings with it periods on contemplation and reflection.

Life’s busy and the world is constantly trying to make life easier and less complicated but is it just me or does life still feel super busy even though we apparently have tools, apps and tech that should make life less busy?

I am not feeling free of busy. So I am going old school on somethings this year. Now this one I didn’t even plan or think about until that moment of reflection hit.

It’s around my landscaping of our new home. Now our landscaping is all native with the aim of it being if it survives our harsh arid summers it stays. This means little watering but still some water would be required especially around those 40 degree plus days.

So I could make my life really convenient and reticulate the garden and make sure it gets watered a couple of times a week.

But I have decided to forgo this so that a simple pleasure of hand watering my garden once or twice a week becomes something to look forward too. Why because plants don’t beep at you, send you a reminder or motivation. It’s quiet time in the garden observing the landscape and micro changes of my garden on a daily basis that you wouldn’t get the chance to see if the Retic was doing that job.

So here’s to 30mins of utter simplicity of turning on a tap and watering my garden in total silence with no app needed to remind me of anything.

I’ve had a few people reach and ask about the choice of flooring we’ve used in our bedrooms of our home.

I am a huge lover of natural materials, fabrics and textures in my home and projects. To me natural materials offer an understated look, that’s relaxed, simple and beautiful.

Years ago when exploring the world of materials I came across the use of sisal for flooring and it’s been on my list of favorites ever since, so when I was selecting the finishes for our home it was the first swatch that kicked off the process.

It looks amazing in neutral wheat tones and blends well with modern country and coastal styles but can easily find itself in an elegant and refined contemporary space.

You can explore the range of different sisals and jute flooring from who installed ours.

Your home should tell the story of you through the things you fill it with and I don’t mean a home full of on trend items or your nanna’s hand me downs.

A considered collection of pieces that mean something to you, that are interesting and create a sense of home.

When designing our new home a few things were important to us so that our story could come through in the finished look of the home.

~ simplicity of materials and colour palette
~ space for the furniture we already owned
~ wall space and hallways to house our art collection
~ spaces that brought us together

I encourage you to think really deeply about what elements create a home for you when renovating or building and your story will shine through in the finished space or new home.

A beautiful kitchen dosen’t need to heavy on the senses. Crisp white, barely green cabinetry with timber accents.

Light on colour and simple materials that can be enjoyed without fuss for many years to come.

This family have waited in the wings and 2026 is their year to bring this project to life.

I’ve been grateful to have worked on some beautiful projects and with great clients in 2025. I’ve also in the background worked on personal projects and goals and so I thought I would share these projects with you over the next week to round out 2025.

Jam Tree Hill Landscaping in collaboration with

Our new home sits atop on hill over looking the Avon Valley. For a new garden it’s a tough gig! It’s granite gravel with clay and rock plus it’s super windy.

So we wanted to work with what we had to save on cost, create a garden with interest, that could be created over time but was hardy and low maintenance. Plant selection focused on natives to encourage diversity and pay homage to the natural environment.

Plants range in colour from silvers to reds, pinks and orange and different plant architecture to create texture.

I have loved this project to create our landscape over the past 8 months, often gardening early in the mornings to start my day. It’s quiet and there’s something different about creating a living thing.

2026 will see stage 2 unfold.
