𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗸 | by 𝗦𝗼𝗕𝗔

SoBA: The Orchestra Park in Kunshan’s Huaqiao Economic Development Zone covers 8,500 square meters between two high-density residential areas and along the confluence of two rivers. With mature camphor and dawn redwood trees and nearby wetlands, the project faced the challenge of integrating a skateboarding area, preserving the natural woodland, and adding essential amenities like restrooms. The design prioritizes ecosystem preservation, creating a functional, modern park for all age groups while providing a green, natural retreat. This project transforms an urban vacant lot into a vibrant recreational space that serves the public and is beloved by the community. We aim to create a livable green space that meets residents’ diverse needs while providing a rich natural experience—a green oasis and social hub in the neighborhood.

The Jiangnan Silk and Bamboo music tradition, featuring instruments like the bamboo flute and erhu, is known for its graceful melodies and was recognized as part of Kunshan’s intangible cultural heritage in 2007. Inspired by this cultural heritage, our design incorporates smooth lines and natural forms that reflect the rhythms of the music. The park’s layout uses curves inspired by these instruments, blending recreation with a three-dimensional representation of the music, and offering residents a harmonious mix of nature and culture. 📌 টপিক: “Component & Structure of a Bridge – ব্রিজের গঠন ও অংশসমূহ”

🧱 ভূমিকা:
ব্রিজ হলো এমন একটি কাঠামো যা নদী, খাল, রাস্তা বা রেললাইন অতিক্রম করার জন্য তৈরি করা হয়। এর ডিজাইন ও স্ট্রাকচার নির্ভর করে লোড, স্প্যান, এবং পরিবেশগত শর্তের উপর। একটি ব্রিজে প্রধানত দুইটি অংশ থাকে – Superstructure ও Substructure। এছাড়া Bearings, Expansion Joints, Deck System ইত্যাদিও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশ।

✅ Bridge-এর মূল Components:

🔸1. Superstructure (উপরের অংশ):
▪️Deck Slab: যানবাহন বা মানুষের চলাচলের জন্য প্ল্যাটফর্ম।
▪️Girders / Beams: ডেক সাপোর্ট দেয় এবং লোড ট্রান্সফার করে।
▪️Stringers: ছোট বিম যা ডেককে গার্ডারের সাথে সংযুক্ত করে।
▪️Bracing System: গার্ডারের স্টেবিলিটি বজায় রাখে।
▪️Expansion Joint: তাপমাত্রা পরিবর্তনে এক্সপ্যানশন কন্ট্রোল করে।

🔸2. Substructure (নিচের অংশ):
▪️Piers: গার্ডার বা ডেক সাপোর্টের জন্য মধ্যবর্তী কলাম।
▪️Pier Cap: পিয়ারের উপরের অংশ যেখানে গার্ডার বসে।
▪️Abutment: ব্রিজের দুই প্রান্তের সাপোর্টিং স্ট্রাকচার।
▪️Wing Walls: অ্যাপ্রোচ রোড সাপোর্ট করে।
▪️Foundation: শ্যালো বা ডিপ (পাইল, ওয়েল, কেসন)।

🔸3. Bearings:
▪️পিয়ার ও গার্ডারের মধ্যে থাকে
▪️লোড ট্রান্সফার ও মুভমেন্ট অ্যাডজাস্ট করে।
▪️Types: Elastomeric, Pot Bearing, Roller Bearing।

🔸4. Accessories:
▪️Parapet / Railing: নিরাপত্তার জন্য।
▪️Drainage System: পানি অপসারণের জন্য।
▪️Lighting & Signage: রাতের দৃশ্যমানতার জন্য।

✅ Bridge Structural Types:
👉Beam Bridge: সবচেয়ে সাধারণ টাইপ।
👉Arch Bridge: ঐতিহাসিক ও ডেকোরেটিভ।
👉Truss Bridge: লাইটওয়েট কিন্তু শক্তিশালী।
👉Suspension Bridge: লম্বা স্প্যানের জন্য।
👉Cable-Stayed Bridge: হাইওয়ে ও এক্সপ্রেস ওয়েতে জনপ্রিয়।

The topography of the land, the rays of the sun, and the gushing winds have created a dominant contextual parameter onto which the house has been woven.0 to 150 lvl House is a response to the client’s brief of wanting a distinctive and functional home. Rooted in simplicity and minimalism, it stands there pronouncedly and completely in harmony with its surroundings to provide the user with a house that they can call their home, blurring the boundaries between the tangible and the intangible. Despite the narrowness of the site, the interior spaces did not compromise on the movement of light and air circulation. The design also took advantage of the longitudinal slope of the site via a stepped-down floor plate following the natural contours of the land, creating levels inside the house and thus the name 0 to 150 lvl.

HOUSE / A White Row House Enchanted by Greenery and Natural Light
VUNG TAU, VIETNAM / Greetings from Vung Tau, a coastal city about two hours by car or ferry from Ho Chi Minh City. Like everything else across Vietnam, it’s the very picture of an urban landscape dominated by long and narrow houses uniformly sized as part of a continuous row. They are nicknamed “Tube Houses” for the shape that’s much longer than it is wide. The same is true for this white house in Vung Tau that has since been renovated, beautifully integrating elements of nature in the house plan. The result is a complete home makeover enchanted by the magic of light and shadow in architecture. Plus, a green garden oasis gives it great aesthetic pleasure.
The stunning white house has five levels including the rooftop deck. It towers above everyone else in the neighborhood. The first floor holds a carport giving access to a room for guest accommodation tucked away at the rear. In the in-between space, a flight of stairs leads to the homeowner’s private residential areas located upstairs. The second floor contains a spacious living room with dining room and kitchen nearby.
The quiet and secluded third and fourth floors hold bedrooms for family members. They are conveniently connected to the fifth floor that’s a rooftop deck filled with terraced vegetable gardens. There are bright interior courtyards adorned with lush foliage and a shade tree thriving in the middle of the floor plan illuminated by rooftop skylights.
Needless to say, the most important element of design is the perforated metal façade painted a cool-toned white. Built in a uniform style, it starts from the ground up and rises all the way to the uppermost point, ultimately becoming a part of the rooftop. From sunrise to sunset, perforated metal panels cast shadows on the walls and floors directly underneath them. Besides letting the fresh air and sunshine stream into the interior, they work in tandem with shade trees and understory plants in the yards, filling the rooms with the magic of a light and shadow show. Like poetry in motion, the show goes on all day as time passes, adding unique and unusual features to a beautiful work of architecture.
