Afternoon tip of today is on the most basic and critical point about plants - Watering.
Most of us know the importance of watering, but below are some watering tips very few people remember 💦
1. Overwatering - The biggest mistake beginner garden nerds make is they love their plants to death, literally. Overwatering can cause as much damage to plants as underwatering can. Watering your plants too much will rot the roots. Once the root rots and becomes soft, the entire plant will die in a short span of time.
2. Soil - The amount of water you add to plants should depend on your soil mix. If it’s an airy mix which drains water well, you’ll have to water more frequently. If it’s a heavy mix which retains more water, you have to water way less.
3. Lighting - Similar to soil types, light conditions determine how frequently your soil dries up. Water your plants accordingly.
4. Underwatering - Plants need both light and water to survive. Develop a routine to water them because all plants have different watering needs. Some helpful ways to check the plant’s need is by using a moisture meter, or if want a free alternative, use a wooden stick or your index finger!
(Bonus) Misting - Often us gardeners develop a habit of misting plants daily but the truth about that is, it helps very little, if at all, with most plants. The only important thing is to water the roots religiously. All other types of watering is a feel-good thing. If you are a busy person, Save your energy and quit the misting mistake and just water the roots.
So, how can you prevent these above mistakes? We’ll cover those points in later posts! Let me know if this was helpful in the comments and what kind of tips do you wanna hear next?
