Facelifting proposal of a commercial building

She was once a stunning beauty, a grand mansion in her prime. Following the partition, she transitioned into government ownership and eventually served as a local post office where my father was employed. We inhabited the upper floor as our family residence.

With a history spanning a century, she holds tales I've yet to fully uncover. Yet, amidst the mysteries, one truth remains: my affection for her is unwavering, reciprocated by her silent embrace.

I express gratitude to my childhood home, for it bestowed upon me the greatest treasure: a wealth of cherished memories.

Upon my father's promotion, we bid her farewell, relocating to a nearby rented apartment. She stood abandoned, a silent witness to our departure. Despite being physically apart, I found solace in gazing upon her familiar façade, fostering a deep sense of belonging.

From a young age, I admired her architectural elegance, a fascination that ultimately guided my career path towards becoming an architect.

১৯৪৭ সাল। হাজারো বাঙালি হৃদয় বিদীর্ণ করে বাংলা ভাগ হলো। বীরেন্দ্রনাথ বিশ্বাস (১৯২৯ - ১৯৮৫) ছিলেন তাদেরই একজন। সেই সাথে বিশ্বাসের হৃদয়ে রক্তক্ষরণ দেখা দেয় যখন তিনি দেখতে পান যে গুরুচাঁদ ঠাকুরের (১৮৪৬ - ১৯৩৭) শিক্ষা আন্দোলনের মাধ্যমে পিছিয়ে পড়া জনগোষ্ঠীর জন্য গড়ে ওঠা শিক্ষা প্রতিষ্ঠানগুলো একে একে বন্ধ হতে থাকে। ১৯৫৪ সালে বি এ পাশ করে তাই অন্য চাকুরীর চিন্তা না করে শিক্ষকতাকেই জীবনের ব্রত হিসাবে গ্রহন করেন বীরেন্দ্রনাথ। "যে তোমায় ছাড়ে ছাড়ুক, আমি তোমায় ছাড়ব না মা”- অন্তরে এই প্রতিজ্ঞা নিয়ে সাতপাড় ও তার সন্নিহিত অঞ্চলে শিক্ষা আন্দোলনের জোয়ার তুললেন তিনি। সে আন্দোলনের সফলতার প্রতীক "সরকারী নজরুল কলেজ; সাতপাড়, গোপালগঞ্জ।"

বীরেন্দ্রনাথের অবর্তমানে আবার এই অঞ্চলে শিক্ষা ও সংস্কৃতি ক্ষেত্রে ভাটার টান শুরু হয়। ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের 'বীরেন্দ্র স্মৃতি সংসদ', সাতপাড়ে 'বীরেন্দ্র সাংস্কৃতি গোষ্ঠী' তাঁর আদর্শ ধরে রাখার যথাসাধ্য চেষ্টা করেছে। এই প্রচেষ্টার আরও এক উজ্জ্বল উদাহরণ বীরেন্দ্রনাথের নিজ গ্রামের যুব সমাজের উদ্যোগে "বীরেন্দ্র স্মৃতি সংঘ" গড়ে তোলা এবং সংঘের মাধ্যমে গ্রামের শিক্ষার মানোন্নয়ন। সম্প্রতি সংঘের উদ্যোগে গ্রামের কোমলমতি ছাত্র-ছাত্রীদের মাঝে সহশিক্ষা কার্যক্রম জোরদার করার জন্য "বীরেন্দ্র একাডেমি ভবন" নির্মিত হচ্ছে।
