𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗳:
Dhaka Residential Model College (DRMC), with its rich academic heritage and expansive historic campus, has long fostered a unique educational culture defined by 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲, 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘆. Characterized by its linear and sprawling academic blocks, shaded courts, and tradition of vibrant academic life full of entertainment & physical activities—this compound offers more than a physical setting; it represents a philosophy of learning that is deeply embedded in the daily practices and cultural fabric of its long nurtured legacy.
The design approach for the new ten-storied Academic Building begins with a careful reading of this legacy. Understanding DRMC’s 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆, 𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗵𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗺𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 of its students formed the foundation of the proposal. During the design process, attention was given to the energy of the considered age-group—from junior to secondary school—when their curiosity expands, their confidence develops, and their sense of self begins to form.
With this foundation, the project focuses on 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀. Insights from former DRMC students enriched the process, helping identify needs and introduce features that were previously unaddressed yet necessary for an enriched student experience. The design adds a contemporary layer to the campus while respecting its established character, using courtyards, terraces, and interconnected platforms to extend the institution’s tradition of openness and community. This integrated approach reinforces DRMC’s long-standing educational philosophy while offering a future-ready architectural framework shaped by 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁, 𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.
