SKS Residence, Nagarpur, Tangail
2022
Client: Sourav Saha
Structural Engineer: Subrata Dhar
The site is situated in Nagarpur, a village located within the Tangail district of Bangladesh. The client's objective was to construct a residence for himself and his family on a square plot measuring approximately 4225 sq. ft. Positioned to the east of the site, there is a captivating view of a natural pond, easily accessible from the site. On the west and north sides, there are existing houses, providing the site with some privacy from the northern woods. However, due to relocation, the client's current house on the west was initially planned to be demolished upon completion of the new one.
Access to the building can be gained through two separate entries located to the south and west, respectively. The plinth level has been elevated 2' above the ground to protect against any flooding event during the rainy seasons. The proposed soft pavement, integrated into the landscape design of the front courtyard, will not only serve as an aesthetic feature but also provide access to the west entrance.
The southern entrance opens into a double-height living room, imbuing the premises with a grand ambiance. The house comprises a total of five bedrooms, with two located on the ground floor alongside the living room, dining space, and kitchen. On the first floor, one finds the master bedroom and two child bedrooms, each equipped with adjoining bathrooms and balconies. These balconies are strategically designed to offer uninterrupted views of the surrounding woods and pond. Additionally, a terrace adjoins the north side of the family living room, featuring an outdoor patio covered with a pergola for recreational activities. A prayer space, requested by the client, is conveniently situated beside the master bedroom, accessible to all for worship.
The structural system of the building adopts a simple column-beam layout for ease of construction in the region. Locally sourced hand-made brick serves as the primary building material.
