TER POORTE, Bruges: landscape design
This project involved renovating a post-war housing building alongside Brugge’s main canal and redesigning the outdoor area above an underground car park.
Rather than designing a conventional parking layout, we approached the site as a non-hierarchical landscape with no predefined paths. People move through this space by finding their own routes — the path of least resistance. The pixelated paving allows grass to grow between the stones, creating a surface that is halfway between a landscape and a car park.
We also designed a bench with different levels, transforming a functional element into a place to sit, meet or play.
Our ambition was simple: to design a place that is almost too pretty for parking.
