On 28 and 29 April, UNIEP and the partners of the Time4Clay&Lime project met in Mauerbach, Austria, hosted by IAGF (Institut für Angewandte Gewerbeforschung).

The project aims to develop practical solutions for the use of lime and clay in modern construction. These solutions will be incorporated into training courses and qualifications for the painting sector, including micro-credentials and a model qualification at the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) Level 5.

On Friday, March 27, UNIEP attended the ‘Painter of the Year’ awards ceremony held in Budapest. This significant event brought together professionals, companies, and organisations from across Europe in the painting sector.

We would like to thank Ipartestületek Országos Szövetsége - IPOSZ and Csaba Pintér, President of SZMTOI, for their support and for organising this event.

UNIEP is grateful for the invitation and will continue to support the painting sector by promoting events and training opportunities, recognising the importance of these initiatives for the industry's growth.

Thanks to Oberflächendesign Messe 2026 for hosting and welcoming UNIEP and our Members.

It was a valuable opportunity to meet companies and professionals in the sector, test materials on-site, and explore industry developments.

The Painter of the Year will be held on 27 March in Budapest. The awards will recognise accomplishments in the following categories: interior painting, facade painting, decorative painting, and wooden and metal surfaces.

Some members of the UNIEP Board, along with the President, Maurice Karotsch, the event's main patron, will be present.

I had the pleasure of meeting Fabienne Keller, Quaestor of the European Parliament, in Strasbourg.

We held a direct, constructive discussion on the issues affecting our craft-building businesses:

- housing and renovation,
- the ecological transition,
- training and the attractiveness of the trades,
- and the European dimension of our professional organisations, particularly through EBC and UNIEP.

The craft sector is not peripheral to European decision-making; it is central to the economic and social realities of our territories.

As housing, skills, and sustainability become key concerns at the European level, it is crucial to strengthen the links between institutions and grassroots actors.
