Boomkwekerij Jef Cools Monumentale groene passie. Zijn creaties lijken zo weggelopen uit de gestileerde droomtuinen die je vaak in de betere periodieken over tuinaanleg tegenkomt.

Je merkt het meteen als je in de buurt van de Loenhoutse Akkerweg komt: hier leeft en werkt een boomkweker met een bijzondere passie voor Taxus, Buxus, Pinus, Fagus en Carpinus… Botanische kunstwerken die kracht en schoonheid uitstralen en die je zonder enige aarzeling als blikvanger in je tuin wenst. Je valt al snel van de ene verbazing in de andere.

These gigantic Fagus sylvatica beehive forms, up to 200 cm in diameter, have a thick stem with a beautiful base, and above all an extremely strong and dense branching structure. This is the result of decades of very tight pruning. In this way, I have created unique beehive topiary that belong in places where they need to make an immediate impression! Regularly transplanting my Taxus baccata topiary is not only beneficial for the transplanted specimen itself, but also for all the topiary growing around it! Besides the transplanted piece, the surrounding plants also gain more light and space to grow. On top of that, it creates new perspectives throughout our nursery and allows us to rediscover our collection from a fresh point of view.

After this decades-old Taxus baccata topiary was transplanted and supplied with drip irrigation and the necessary fertilisers, it can now settle again, and we release it from the netting in which it was tightly wrapped…

All these individually unique Taxus baccata topiary specimens, the oldest up to 50 years old and all grown from small seedlings in our nursery, have been given a new place within our grounds.

➡️ By replanting them in rows, we regain overview and make maintenance easier, while also trimming their roots in the process.
