A house shaped with care by the father, reworked with respect and ambition by the son, and carried forward for a new generation.

house B-S with multipurpose shed, Dikkelvenne (BE),

In addition to residential projects, we also consciously work on smaller interventions, such as multipurpose sheds. These projects bring together a keen sense of proportion, structural expertise, and careful attention to the existing structure.

Multipurpose sheds are particularly well suited to this approach. They often fall outside the strict regulatory framework of residential construction, making them an ideal testing ground for intuition, craftsmanship, and swift, well-considered decisions.

The nature of the challenge shifts accordingly: rather than being driven by regulations or technical systems, the focus lies on how an existing shed can be transformed into a unique, comfortable, and meaningful space—while retaining its specific character.

This is precisely where GBA’s expertise lies. Through years of working with Flemish heritage and its underlying building logic, we approach multipurpose sheds not as leftover or secondary volumes, but as fully-fledged components of a property.

This creates a coherent relationship between the shed and the main residence, without competition between them, while respecting the individuality and autonomy of each structure.

house VH-DB, Astene (BE),

The starting point for this interior wasn't a predetermined style, but rather the client's personal story and the location on the plot, which guided the plan and construction.
In collaborative workshops, materials were researched, compared, and tested. This resulted in a combination of a stainless steel kitchen island, oak with a green stain, warm terracotta tiles, a sanded concrete staircase, and concrete structural elements.

At first glance, these seemingly contradictory materials enhance each other without dominating. For example, the stainless steel island's orange color picks up on the terracotta, creating a warm glow.

This approach is typical of Graux & Baeyens Architects, where interior design is approached as a collaborative process in which the residents' identities and the broader context form the starting points.

House VH-DB, Astene (BE)

No open plan, but a readable plan.

The kitchen opens to the street through a window that fully disappears into the façade.
The concrete sill becomes a bench — a place to sit, wait, talk.

Three interlocking wings connect front and rear gardens,
while evening light enters from the south, activating the space throughout the day.

House C-P, Roosdaal.

A house located in an agricultural area (zonevreemde woning), where the shed was once literally glued to the house. The view of the garden behind it? Completely gone.

The intervention was as simple as it was precise: part of the garden shed was carefully cut away, while preserving the roof structure.
The result is an open view from the living room straight into the garden.

But the real surprise lies at the transition between indoors and outdoors. There, a covered terrace appears—sheltered, bright, and just open enough.
A place that feels like a vacation at home, every single day.
Indoors and outdoors merge. And suddenly, everything fits together again.

Okay, maybe not the season to post these photos.
But they do perfectly capture what the covered terrace is meant for: a place to enjoy, a place to gather.

Now, the countdown to summer...

House K-M, Kortrijk.

A (re)new(ed) construction in a non-zoned area, where the 1,000 m³ limit did not become a constraint, but a guiding principle.

Applied with millimetric precision, it nevertheless results in a surprisingly spacious home.

Three volumes. One storey. Three flat roofs.
They follow the natural slope of the terrain and gently nestle into one another, like a cascade along the contour lines.

In this way, the house embeds itself in the landscape — not despite the restrictive volume limit, but precisely because of it.

A placement that echoes the calm, tranquil character of its residents.

About last week: we had a wonderful reunion with house TD in Leuven, this time for a shoot for sabatomagazine.

For this project, GRAUX & BAEYENS architecten and interior designer pjmares_brussels joined forces and were at the design table together from day one. This blurs the lines: there's no longer a beginning or end between interior, exterior, or shell. Where structure and surroundings intersect, an interior emerges that isn't designed alongside the architecture, but is one with it.

This is just a first glimpse of the shoot day. More to come soon.

A quiet start. The concrete slab has been poured. The outlines are in place.
In the garden of a family home, the project begins to take shape: a compact ensemble where a natural pool, home office and garden shed come together in a new way of living and working.

Not an addition, but an answer.
A spatial response to how life unfolds here — and how work is done.
Designed in close collaboration with Benoit Bauwens Interior Architects, who live here, welcome friends and clients, and shape their own projects step by step, this design grew from a shared trajectory.

Their brief was clear: a place where focus and ease reinforce each other.

The limited garden space called for a plan without leftovers.
No scattered elements, but a composed triangle of volumes: the natural pool, the workspace, and the garden shed.
Together, they define a new kind of outdoor space — framed, sheltered, intentional.

For the home of landscape architect we were invited to also designed a garden pavilion.

It consists of two volumes: a closed storage space for garden tools, and a glazed garden room to work, host or simply experience the garden.
A continuous roof connects both volumes, offering shelter, shade, and a passage to the second part of the garden.
We deliberately chose not to replicate the architecture of the main house, but to tell a new story — shaped by the same hand and a shared vision.
The pavilion nestles into the planting. It does not dominate, but collaborates.
It enters into a quiet synergy with the garden Thomas designed himself, and allows the whole to breathe through the seasons.
