Few old buildings in Bhutan used Slate as roofing material and very few are still existing around.
This traditional building near GREF Colony just below Old Thimphu-Phuntsholing highway is probably the only structure seen with Slate as roofing material in Thimphu.
Slate is a finest grained foliated metamorphic rock.
It is 100% made of narural stone and environmental friendly, fire-proof with good insulating property minimising the use of energy.
Slate is durable and long lasting over 150 years and can be recycled
The only disadvantage being expensive and the installation as it requires qualified and skilled installer for fixing.
