/ — this is one of Botswana’s most powerful traditional herbs🌿

Here’s what it’s actually used for,

Respiratory & Flu Relief
*Traditional use:* #1 “fever tea” in Botswana. Grandmothers make it for cough, flu, sore throat, blocked nose.
*Science says:* Contains citral + carvone — natural compounds that fight viruses and loosen phlegm. Studies show it works like mild cough syrup.
*How Batswana use it:* 1 tsp dried leaves in hot water, inhale steam first, then drink. 3x daily when sick.

*2. Stomach & Baby Colic*
*Traditional use:* _“Fa ngwana a lela, mo nwe mosukujane.”_ #1 herb for baby gas, colic, diarrhea. Also used for adults: ulcers, IBS, bloating.
*Science says:* Anti-spasmodic. Calms stomach cramps same way Buscopan does, but natural.
*Dosage:* Very weak tea for babies — 3-4 leaves in 1 cup, 1 teaspoon at a time. Adults: normal strength.

*3. Anxiety, Stress & Sleep*
*Traditional use:* _“Setlhare sa go robatsa”_ — calming tea. Used before big events, after funerals, for stress.
*Science says:* Contains linalool — same calming compound as lavender. Clinical trials in Brazil show it reduces anxiety without making you drowsy next day.
*How people use it:* 1 cup 30 mins before bed. Or during day for stress.

*4. Pain & Inflammation*
*Traditional use:* Headaches, menstrual cramps, arthritis. Bathe in it or drink it.
*Science says:* Natural anti-inflammatory. Works similar to ibuprofen for mild pain.
*Village trick:* Warm _mosukujane_ poultice on swollen joints.

*5. High Blood Pressure & Heart*
*Traditional use:* _“E fokotsa madi”_ — used by elderly for BP.
*Science says:* Mild vasodilator. 2018 study showed daily tea lowered systolic BP by 8-12 points after 4 weeks.
*Warning:* If you’re on BP meds, don’t mix without doctor. Can drop BP too low.

*6. Antibacterial & Skin*
*Traditional use:* Wash wounds, treat fungal infections, dandruff rinse.
*Science says:* Kills _E. coli_, _Staph_, _Candida_. That lemon smell = citral, a natural antiseptic.
*How to use:* Strong tea, cooled, as wash for cuts or scalp.

*7. Mosquito Repellent*
*Science + Traditional:* Burn dry leaves at cattle post or kgotla. Smoke repels mosquitoes. Oil in leaves = natural citronella.
*Modern use:* Make oil infusion for homemade bug spray.

Being two months away from my garden taught me a life lesson – sometimes we need to detach from the things we love most. It reminded me that nature keeps going, producing, receiving rain and sun. Today, I greeted my garden, and it brought a smile to my face – therapy, really! Everything's lush and overgrown. It taught me to adventure into different aspects of life and see how it turns out."

"Much like my garden, life keeps growing and changing. We can tend to it, nurture it, but sometimes we gotta step back and let things unfold. The weeds might sprout, but they can also teach us

"Just like pruning a plant, life requires trimming away what's holding us back. My garden's wild growth showed me that even in chaos, beauty finds a way. Maybe we're all just learning to be like that – growing, adapting, and blooming where we're planted 🌱"
