Basic Knowledge for Civil Site Engineer
1.Daily Site Work Knowledge
■ Check levels before and after concreting.
■ Ensure proper curing of concrete (at least 7 days for normal cement).
■ Check reinforcement details as per structural drawing.
■ Ensure cover blocks are placed properly.
■ Supervise shuttering alignment and surface before pour.
2. Concrete Work
■ Concrete Ratio (Nominal Mix): M5–1:5:10, M10–1:3:6, M15–1:2:4, M20–1:1.5:3.
■ Slump Test: 75–100mm for beams/slabs, 25–50mm for foundations.
■ Curing Time: Minimum 7 days (OPC), 10–14 days (PPC).
■ Check cube test samples properly labeled.
3. Brickwork & Masonry
■ Brick size (standard): 190×90×90 mm or 9”×4.5”×3”.
■ Mortar mix ratio: 1:4 (for walls), 1:6 (for plaster).
■ Ensure brick soaking before laying.
■ Check line, level, and plumb regularly.
4.Bar Bending Schedule (BBS)
■ Understand types of bends, hooks, cranks, lap lengths.
■ Lap Length: 50d (tension), 40d (compression).
■ Development Length (Ld) = (Φ × σs) / (4 × τbd).
■ Check spacing and cover as per drawing.
5.Safety & Quality
■ Always wear PPE (helmet, shoes, gloves, etc.).
■ Barricade work area and display safety signs.
■ Ensure scaffolding is firm and inspected.
■ Keep daily progress records and checklist.
6.Important Formulas
■ Volume of Concrete = L × B × H.
■ No. of Bricks = Volume of brickwork / Volume of one brick (with mortar).
■ Steel weight (kg) = (D² / 162) × Length (m).
■ 1 m³ = 35.3147 cft.
