Have you checked your exhaust vents to make sure they are not clogged? Dryer Vents, bathroom fan and stove hood exhaust vents, often times when the exterior vent breaks it can invite birds and other critters to make a nest in your pipes. Here is just one example, a bird's nest. Fortunately for us these birds grew up and flew away, however unfortunately for us the birds in the bathroom fan exhaust ended up dying, and the smell lingered for several weeks even after I cleaned it all out. It's a very inexpensive yet important repair.

Do you need an economical solution to cover those ugly Basement ceilings? Don't want to spend money on drywall, or dropped ceiling? I don't blame you! it's better to leave those pipes easily accessible in case of a leak or something else. If you have Ice dams in your roof then it's a sign of poor ventilation. A couple years of having ice dams could cause enough damage that you may need a whole new roof. Fixing the root problem isn't very expensive!. From what I see in most attics the soffit airways are almost always blocked by insulation. Half of the attics I have been in the bathroom exhaust fan was not connected causing a lot of condensation and mold in your attic. To prevent Ice Dams I install ventilation baffles and I'll check for any heat loss with a Thermo imaging camera and add insolation to the areas that need it. Sometimes I'll have to add more soffit ventilation to help with airflow.

I'm sure that a lot of you may have icicles hanging from your roof. This is called an ice dam and when the snow melts you will definitely get a leak because the water gets blocked at the dam and runs under the shingles and down your wall or bathroom fan or wherever it can. If you send me a PM I can permanently fix this problem by adding ventilation baffles to your attic that will allow for proper airflow...this airflow will carry away any of the heat from your home that rises into the attic. If you have icicles then i urge you to send me a PM and I can explain exactly what needs to be done so that you can have peace of mind.
