So, here's another example of how somebody decided to cheap-out on the materials they used to construct this deck. Standard construction screws are not to be used with pressure treated lumber. Why? Simple - because the chemicals in the lumber (ACQ-Alkaline Copper Quaternary) will corrode construction screws rendering them useless. Even trying to unscrew them, they break inside of the lumber. Hence; why deck screws are to be used. Or, if you prefer using nails, be sure to use hot dipped galvanized nails.
Cutting corners to save a couple of bucks is so stupid (albeit common), it will cost you, and your reputation as a builder down the road.
My motto: "Be lazy, and do things right the first time."
Use the right fasteners for the application. We do!

This shut-off valve under the kitchen sink absolutely disintegrated, and yes it's "metal". 🤣🙄

Somebody at Knack has been a busy lad. Finally finished building this beautiful privacy fence for another amazing client.
It certainly came with it's challenges, including several unnecessary delays with the building permit. After we got the approval from ONE CALL (to locate the gas lines, hydro, cable & phone wires) I narrowly avoid death by nearly hitting an underground service drop with the auger by about 1/2" - which the hydro company only buried about 14" underground and failed to advise us it ran through the backyard on an angle, plus 3 trips back to Home Depot to return the "premium grade lumber" (aka: garbage not fit for a firepit) which was twisted, cracked, cupped and bowed, plus hitting a leach line located in the unknown septic field from the next door neighbour's septic tank - which ran into my client's yard by several feet. No one mapped it, or kept track of this from nearly 20 years ago when it was installed by backyard DIYers. The neighbour has lived there for over 17 years & had never had his septic tank emptied. 💩💦💨🤦‍♂️
(*FYI - It's recommended to have your septic tank pumped every 2-5 years.)
A quick repair of the leach pipe, and after draining about 200 gallons of sh*t-water from the ground, and the removal of thousands of stones, the project continued. Challenges bring opportunities & we can do anything!
Overall, very pleased with the end result. 🤘😁⚒

It would seem that we exceeded our client's expectations by a mile. 😁👌
Her dream unfolded into a serene, private space with a multi-functional, and tranquil area to enjoy for many years to come. Perhaps telling her grandchildren stories around the fire pit (one day), and showing everyone her beautiful flowers.
Can't wait for the BBQ, bonfire and beverages night that we kind of "voluntold" her to have so that we could re-visit this beautified space, once again. I am certain that it will be unbelievable when it has some lights, friends/family, and had it's final touches of love.
Jalon MacKenzie & her daughter, Jayde, were an absolute pleasure to work for, and their fur babies Khaos, Tilly, Trevor and Josie will definitely be missed, although I'm pretty certain that Tilly will enjoy that absence of loud tool noises! 😁
Can't wait for their next home improvement adventure. ♥️
