It was an honour to give this community and the Glen Alda Community Centre a much deserved accessible facelift!
Stay tuned for some before and after pics…
On Friday, MPP Dave Smith had a virtual meeting with Mayor Carolyn Amyotte and Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) volunteer Tom Wall to hear more about the impact that a $156,700 Community Building Fund Capital stream grant has had in the community. The grant was awarded by the Government of Ontario and OTF in late 2021 and enabled the Town of North Kawartha to move forward with the Glen Alda Community Centre Renovation project.
The Glen Alda Community Centre Renovation project addresses the recognized accessibility and health and safety deficiencies, which increases facility usefulness, while extending this historic facility’s life expectancy. Thanks to the grant, the Township was able to make upgrades to improve accessibility and safety by paving the gravel parking lot and adding an accessible parking space, as well as making the centre’s entrance way more accessible by installing automated doors. In addition, the grant helped with the costs for making the washroom facilities more accessible, and it enabled the Township to install new kitchen cupboards, a new countertop and island, all with accessible access in the kitchen facilities.
