The greenhouse officially identified as a kite today🪁 🌪️🥬

I live at Thomson Lake for the summers so I sent my sister to the farm to check on the damage so far….

After surviving the emotional damage of losing our chickens, Mother Nature apparently decided our plants and green house needed a taste of earths goodies too. 😅

If anyone sees a tomato plant flying through southern Saskatchewan, mind your business… she’s been through enough.

I’ll be sorting through the survivors at some point next week and selling anything salvageable. Pray for plant deliveries instead of plant funerals. 😂🌱⚰️☠️🏴‍☠️

On the bright side, the plants got more fresh air today than most of us all winter.

My friends from Country Roots Farmstand are coming to Assiniboia this Friday & Saturday! 🙌🏽

Suzzanne has been working incredibly hard and will be bringing 60+ fresh sourdough loaves! And trust me, this is not your average bread. Her sourdough, which is sandwich style loaves is hands down, one of the best I’ve ever had. 🥖

If you’re heading to the tradeshow, make sure you stop by and support Country Roots Farmstand, along with all the amazing local vendors. It means the world to small businesses, and your tastebuds will definitely thank you.

It absolutely breaks our hearts to write this.

Moe’s Kitchen will no longer be offering farm fresh eggs for the time being 💔

Unfortunately, the Avian Flu (HPAI strain) has struck our acreage and took our entire flock within 72 hours.

Many of you know how much this part of our business meant to us. What started in April of 2024, grew into something truly special, a flock of ~65 chickens (and a few roosters) that we cared for with so much pride and love. From what they were fed, to how they were raised with kiddos from the day home, to our funny chicken coop cats, to the freedom they had to roam the acreage, every detail mattered to us. And because of that, we were so proud to provide high quality farm fresh eggs to SO many of you.

This has been really devastating. As animal lovers, this loss is incredibly painful, and watching something we’ve built and nurtured be impacted by something completely out of our control is heartbreaking beyond words.

It has been reported to the CFIA and we are following all required government regulations to ensure the safety of ourselves, our property, and any future animals. Because of this, it will be some time before we are able to bring new chickens back. 😞

We know many of you rely on us for eggs, and this affects not just our business, but our amazing customers as well. For that, we are deeply sorry.

We do want to reassure everyone:
If you currently have eggs from us, or have purchased eggs from us within the past month, they are SAFE for human consumption.

Greenhouse 2026 Announcement!☀️

🌱 Garden Veggies 2026 is officially underway! 🌱

Lane and I spent the day getting a big batch of seeds started for this year’s garden and we’re pretty excited about what’s coming this season.

This year I’m changing things up a little.. Instead of delivering a couple plants here and a couple there, I’ll be opening our greenhouse for people to come shop right at the acreage. 🥹We’re located less than 10 minutes from Assiniboia, so it’ll be an easy stop if you’re looking for garden plants this spring.

🍅 Tomatoes we’ve started:
Cherry, Marglobe, Giant, Bushsteak Hybrid, Roma, Organic Roma, San Marzano, Supersteak Hybrid, and Big Daddy Hybrid.

🌶️ Hot peppers:
Hot Salsa Blend (Jalapeño, Anaheim, Slim Cayenne, Ancho), Jalapeños, Hungarian Wax, Spicy Asian, Yellow/Red/Orange Habaneros, Ghost, Super Chili, Fresno, and Cayenne.

🌻 We’re also trying multicoloured sunflowers and classic sunflowers this year (assuming they cooperate and germinate nicely)

What you’ll be able to find in the greenhouse:
• Tomato plants
• Hot pepper plants
• Wildflower seed mixes for your garden (the bees will love you 🐝)
• Sunflowers
• Farm fresh eggs
• Possibly sourdough bagels or loaves if time allows
• And maybe more!

I’ll post greenhouse shopping days and times closer to spring. It will likely be a mix of evenings, lunch hours, and a couple weekends so people can pop by when it works best.
