1st harvest of
Dandelion Acres Microgreens!
Thanks to all those who already purchased! šŸ’• My die hard fans.😁

I still have:
🌱 14 packages of Dwarf Pea microgreens, 🌱 7 packages of Black Oil Sunflower Microgreens, both at $5 for 60 grams

🌱 1 package of Broccoli Microgreens at $8 for 60 grams (please note… whoever purchases this one will be getting my ONLY package of the broccoli microgreens… because I planted only a tiny bit as a test run)

They are all in my fridge and ready to go.

The health benefits are stunning! I plan to do some nice write ups, but for now, here is the Google summary:
ā€œHigh in anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties. They are also rich in vitamins A, C, E, and K, and minerals like calcium, iron, and potassium. These benefits contribute to improved immune function, cardiovascular health, digestive health, and can help detoxify the body and fight chronic diseasesā€

FINALLY got to the venture I meant to start a couple years ago! MICROGREENS! 🌱
They will be ready on Saturday.
I snuck a piece today and they are so delicious. šŸ˜‹

Health benefit of microgreens šŸ’„:
- high concentration of vitamins A,C,E, K, minerals calcium, magnesium, potassium, and antioxidants (up to 40 times higher than the mature plants).
- Supports heart health ā¤ļø
- Improves digestion
- Protects against diseases/illness
- Enhances skin health
- Boosts cognitive function 🧠 šŸ’”

(Might be time to reawaken the Dandelion Acres dream Joanie and I played with in 2022.)

My first round will be $5 for a 60 gram package of microgreens. Peas and sunflowers. I have no idea how many I will have. This is my trial run!

How I stay sane with a busy household… getting up early! A couple hours before everyone else to have a quiet time makes all the difference in the world. Taking time to read God’s word and pray and journal, check my priorities for the day, prepare with deep breaths for whatever may come our way… and doing a few things off the routine to prepare for a better day!

Last week I did NOT get up before the household. And I felt a bit ripped off and behind the eight ball all day long. And maybe a bit like a victim. šŸ™ˆ
Already this week is a vast improvement even though we are just as busy. Getting up early. I am telling you… it is worth it!

P.S. For those who don’t know, our quiet home has grown by two members. A mom and her baby who needed support. I remember the old days of 5 kids in the house. It was a busy life and those early mornings were SOOO important. Back in this place again in a new season.

I have LOTS of baking trays and sourdough bread at the Neerlandia Christmas Market at Mellowdale hall. I hope I won’t bring any of it home because I know you want it in your house to make hosting easy and for a delectable delight for yourself!
Two more days to pick it up! Tonight until 6pm, then Friday 10-6 and Saturday 10-4!

I baked 55 loaves of sourdough over the last two weeks. And over 100 dozen Christmas treats.
Check out the market! You will be glad you did. So beautiful. (And yummy)

I will do this again tomorrow. I will have 4 loaves of artisan sourdough ready to be delivered to Barrhead! So yummy!

I am going to sell my lovely flock of chickens. My Joanie has been working hard to look after them while my heel has been healing… but it looks like it’s possible it may still be a long road so I am going to decrease some chores.

They have been prolific layers and even made me some money selling chicks and/or fertilized eggs!

All of these breeds are winter hardy and do awesome with free range.

Lavender Orpingtons:
- a beautiful one year old trio. Two fluffy hens and a rooster. They lay long cream colored eggs. Great hatch rates for the fertilized eggs I sold.
- 7 chicks that just hatched on August 23. Unsexed.

Black Copper Marans:
- Five 12 week old chicks.
- One 8 week old chick.
- Two little ones that hatched Aug 23.
These birds lay chocolate brown eggs!

Bresse:
- 3 hens with one rooster, one year old, great hatch rates for the fertilized eggs I sold.
- 7 chicks that hatched Aug 23.
These purebred, white chickens with steel colored legs originate from France.
Free range dual purpose heritage breed, great layers, but most well known for their quality meat with marbling effect. Excellent foragers, winter hardy.
Roosters finish at 5-7 lbs and hens finish at 4-5 lbs. Slower growing, active bird, finishing at about 5 months. This meat is quite different than the chicken we get in the stores with more flavor, considered ā€œthe world’s best tasting chickenā€

Barnyard mix (see the video in the comments)
- 8 hens (two are araucana cross and lay the greenish eggs!)
- 1 Silkie rooster

Enjoying the bounty of berries this month! Raspberries and saskatoons and spotting baby birds! I was surprised that the yellow raspberries are even sweeter and juicier than the red raspberries.
The saskatoons were ABUNDANT!

Something fun happened here this week! Molly (our broody hen) finally got her long awaited wish of being a mother.

She has been aggressively protecting eggs and pecking me when I collected them since February!

I gave her 8 eggs that I selected so she could hatch out some chicks that I wanted.

I never checked under her for nearly 3 weeks… when I did, she had TWENTY SIX eggs under her!!

I thought the other chickens were not laying eggs in the barn anymore and I had just been collecting from the outside nests… NOPE! Molly had been stealing eggs and adding them! They were layered two to three deep under her tiny body.

So needless to say, a lot did NOT hatch, but she managed to get 5 little ones out of her ambitious venture.

I scooped the rest of the eggs and stuck them in my incubator. They might not hatch, but I can see partially formed chicks when I candle them and they appear alive so we will see!
