Last week was a big week around the shop, we welcome Ezra Gordon Barton to our crew!

He’s not quite ready to swing a hammer yet but we’ll get there!

Staining is half science, half art.

Same wood, different results—every time.
Species, grain density, prep, and application all play a role in how a stain actually shows up.

Sand it differently? It changes.
Apply it heavier? It changes.
Wipe timing? Changes again.

There’s no “one colour fits all”—it’s about understanding the material and controlling the process to get a consistent, repeatable finish.

This is why we always sample first.

It’s the details behind the walls that matter most.

Flashing tape done right.
Typar installed and secured properly—cap staples and fully taped.

Not our build—just helping a friend/subtractor get it sealed up properly.

Repeat clients are built on trust.

Back for another project, we completed a new window opening, installed a new window, and upgraded the entry with a new exterior door. Small projects like this continue to show how thoughtful improvements can make a big difference. Grateful to work with clients who call us back time and time again.

Not every setup needs to be overloaded.

This is my favourite trim work rig — Akribis leather, stripped down to the essentials, built for clean finish work and efficient movement. Fatmax, knife, pencil, hammer, square, flat bar, cats paw, small fastener pouch and a drill hook… everything I need, nothing I don’t.

When you spend your days chasing details, a clean setup matters. Precision starts long before the first cut.

Apparently this wallpaper was the creepiest thing some of you had seen in a while… and based on the messages I got, there’s a decent chance I’m now haunted. 👻

But creepy dolls aside, this is the start of a great interior renovation we kicked off last week.

Phase 1 includes:
• wallpaper removal throughout
• significant drywall repairs prior to paint
• all new interior doors and trim
• new flooring
• full interior paint
• a custom laundry room with new cabinetry and a countertop over the washer and dryer

Phase 2 will include:
• a new entry door
• replacement of one faulty window

Sometimes the biggest transformations start with peeling back the layers and undoing a few decades of “character.”
Looking forward to bringing this one back to life.

📍Another Bear Creek Carpentry interior renovation underway.
