This is mostly a hobby for now, but hopefully more in the future.

M, J, E & A The following are tips & tricks for growing in Calgary
**********
TOMATO
- Transplanting: Place the plant deeper than original soil level to encourage more root growth. You can cut off the bottom two branches or so. Throw a handful of compost or rich soil into the hole before putting the plant in. We also like to a
dd crushed egg shell to add calcium.
- Growing: Lots of direct sunlight. Plants need staking and support. Regular watering. Don't let dry out. Plant in the warmest spot in your garden. Most of the plants we sell are *indeterminate*, meaning they will grow indefinitely. You need to prune the plant when it has reached the height you want. We've grown tomatoes that are 2meters tall! Plants need pruning throughout the season. We add fertilizer a couple times throughout the season. Tomatoes are heavy feeders.
- Tips: Watering at base only and don't get leaves wet to prevent diseases. Cut off any diseased parts. Don't let any branches/fruit touch the ground. Prune to give good airflow. Plants are not very cold tolerant. Keep warm during early season.

ZUCCHINI
- Transplanting: Transplant as deep as original soil level. Throw a handful of compost or rich soil into the hole before putting the plant in.
- Growing: Full sun or part sun. These plants grow bushy and can be several feed in diameter. Don't plant too close together as these plants need good airflow through the leaves. These plants are susceptible to diseases like powder mildew. If you see this, cut off entire leaf. Fertilize a couple times per season. These plants grow fast and can produce very large zucchinis. Not very heavy feeders. Need regular pruning to cut off old leaves.
- Tips: Manual pollination will help production. Male and female flowers don't always appear the same day. When you see a male flower, pick it and keep it in the fridge/glass of water. Use it to pollinate female flowers as they appear.
