Last week at Design Week Calgary, I had the opportunity to attend The Work Beneath the Work, a workshop led by Elisabet from Designfulness™ — and it was such a meaningful reminder that some of the most important work we do isn’t always the work people see.

As designers, entrepreneurs, and creative professionals, it’s so easy to operate on autopilot moving from deadline to deadline, solving problems, managing expectations, and constantly producing.

Elisabet introduced us to a different way of working: shifting away from stress, misalignment, and performative productivity and toward psychological safety, clearer communication, stronger team identity, and sustainable collaboration.

Because real creativity and innovation don’t just come from working harder. They come from creating the right conditions for people to think, communicate, challenge ideas, and collaborate well.

A beautiful workshop and a great reminder to pay attention to the work beneath the work. 🤍

Last week we were lucky to attend the sold out Dinner with A Designer event hosted by Way of Normal at their Kensington studio as a part of Design Week Calgary. It was a great opportunity to spend time with the design community, make connections, and take a peek into the world of hospitality design.

Way of Normal is doing some very interesting things in food and beverage design — hearing how they approach the design process was an inspiring reminder to push boundaries and think outside-of-the-box! There are so many different ways to approach a design concept and keeping an open mind leads to impressive results, as seen in both Stable Palms Club and Pali Room.

The goal was to give residents a space to relax while waiting for visitors or deliveries that is a bit hidden away from the circulation areas.
