Many customers ask me what determines the lifespan of a stair nosing. Today, I’m not talking about installation — only the material itself.

The wear layer is designed to resist wear, but it is still relatively brittle. Its impact and bending resistance are limited. So even if the surface is wear-resistant, it can still fail over time if there is not enough support behind it.

If the groove is cut too deep, the bend area is left with only a very thin layer. It may bend easily, but without enough PVC support behind it, it is much more likely to crack or fail over time. It also usually creates a sharp 90-degree edge, which looks harder and less natural.

On the other hand, if about 1/16” to 1/8” of PVC is left behind the bend and then heat-formed, the nosing will have much better strength and lifespan. It also creates a smoother, more natural rounded edge, which feels more comfortable underfoot.

So from a material standpoint, the lifespan of a stair nosing mainly depends on two things: the thickness of the wear layer, and whether there is a reasonable thickness of PVC support left behind the bend. Both are very important to its long-term strength and durability.

One method of stair nosing side edge finishing is to miter and return the nosing piece back into the side edge ，creating a clean and seamless look.
This method is ideal for small areas.

$11.5/linear feet (wood insert)
Example: If the stair step width is 33 inches, the total price is $11.5/12"x33"=$31.625

The above price is after tax

The production cycle is general (4-7 days)

Customization process:
1. The customer fills in the vinyl stairc nosing order form
2. Send the completed order form and vinyl planks to Hawkwood NW Calgary
3. After the processing is completed, you will receive the invoice.
4.Please e-transfer money and go to the same place to pick up the stairs nosing.

Many customers ask whether vinyl nosing for stairs with wood or vinyl nosing for stairs without wood is better. If the nose of your stair treads has not been cut yet, I strongly recommend choosing the one without wood. Watch the video for the specific reasons.
