It has been an incredibly busy spring this year, highlighted so far by this fun design and install! Thanks to Adam at Red Dog Earthworks for the scrape and .green.thumb for the plants! We are stoked at how this turned out and look forward to seeing where the clients take it from here.

We are excited to be back after a nice winter break! Spring is in the air, we are dusting off the tools, and we are looking forward to the busy season!

We kickstarted our spring projects by re-levelling this outdoor seating area. What was once a sloped and functionally poor seating zone, is now a much more user friendly patio ;) We installed some nice edging brick that helps elevate the look and protects the fence from rotting.

Originally planned as a paver patio, this pathway screenings option is a great lower budget alternative that still looks fantastic!

The client was awesome to work for and we are excited for what’s next in store!

If you are looking to upgrade your property this year give us a shout!

Spring brings out the big guns, but it’s nice to take a moment this time of year to appreciate the wonderful fall/winter colours in our gardens and give some attention to the plants that are understated through much of the rest of the year.

We are seeing more and more education around this which is awesome, but I couldn’t help but stop to snap some pics of these ridiculously mulch bermed parking lot beds.

There is no reason these beds need to be so full. I assume over the years the maintenance companies managing the lot kept quoting to mulch, as a form of slow season revenue, and just continuously installed mulch upon mulch at the risk of the tree’s health. That’s not to mention the mess of that soil/mulch washing onto the walkways during heavier rains.

Mulch has its place but should not be bermed up the trunk of those trees. I guarantee the trees here are suffocating/rotting and the roots may be girdling.

In your own gardeners you definitely want to ensure when you install mulch you leave some clearance from plant stems. If you have gardeners working for you then have a discussion about other slow season tasks they can do to keep them busy, not just mulching. I bet they have great ideas and would love having other streams of revenue this time of year to keep their crew busy.

Sometimes the smallest jobs can have the biggest impact. This gorgeous garden gets an elevated feel with nicely set paving slabs through the pathway. This is the perfect project for a cloudy November day!

Winter can be a good time on the coast to get some foundational hardscape work done. Give us a shout if you have any projects in mind!

Happy to be able to put this garden to rest for the year with a thorough cleanup and mulching. Just in time for our first atmospheric river event too! We used a nutrient rich fish mix mulch to both feed the plants and help insulate their roots for the winter.

There is still time to prep your garden beds for winter too. Give us a shout!

Knees are sore, lower back tight, and shoulder has a little muscle tweak now BUT what a difference 4 days can make. So happy to get these garden beds under control again. We love these high impact garden cleanups. The clients can breathe easy knowing the beds will be way easier to manage moving forward! And you can see the pond again!

If your garden is equally out of control maybe we can help. Give us a shout!

Low maintenance is the name of the game these days. There is nothing more high maintenance than an 8 year old unmanaged cobble stone garden bed with fabric and spreading grasses. We were super happy to be able to transform this curb side bed into something easier to manage for our clients!

Do you struggle with unruly gardens? We’d be happy to help transform them into lower maintenance spaces! Give us a call.

It is bloody hot out and it was hard to stay hydrated working in direct sun most of the week, but we sure love the finished results on this garden cleanup. Overgrown grass out and a nutrient rich compost based soil amender put back in. Just in time for the clients to enjoy all summer!

Looking to refresh your garden beds? Give us a shout!

We are excited to be done phase 2 of this back yard remodel. More to come, but this new bed will really bring a lot of interest to the property. We can’t wait to see the plants as they start to fill in! We focused on dog friendly flowering shrubs and perennials with some dwarf conifers and grasses throw in the mix as well as three lovely willows. As things fill out adjustment will be made, but we are very happy to bring our clients vision to life.
