A recap of some pretty customs that went out over the last week. This may be the last of them for the 2024 season given the predicted weather forecast over the next few nights 🥶. We’ve already been working hard behind the scenes and are already so excited for what 2025 will bring though! In the meantime, there’s still lots to do to wrap up the 2024 season in preparation for the next. -Katherine

Our last official week of flower subscriptions wrapped up last week.

We are so thankful for our subscribers this year – it was a privilege to provide you with flowers throughout our 2024 season, whether it was part of our tulip subscription, spring or summer/fall subscription, monthly subscription, or for the whole season. Being able to meet, and connect with our subscribers over flowers was one of our favourite things this year.

We’ll be offering flower subscriptions again next year (we’ll officially announce the details later this year). Thanks again subscribers for being so awesome 🌸

Dried Flower Pumpkins are here!

Andrew has been working hard to get our first batch of pumpkins ready for this weekend.

We have 3 different size offerings this year:

1) Small - $8
2) Medium - $15
3) Large - $22

We do not cut holes in the pumpkins so they will last as long as the life of the pumpkin itself. We say confidently 4-6 weeks, but we had reports last year that they lasted well into the spring (6+ months)!

This weekend you can purchase these at the Campbellford Farmer’s Market (Saturday only from 9am-1pm) OR you can message us to reserve your pumpkin which you can pick up (near Empire Cheese) or we can deliver for a small fee.

We dried as many flowers as we could over the summer in preparation for these and we are so excited to be offering them again this season. They are one of our favourites!

A fun surprise. This dahlia is new to me this year and was supposed to be Boom Boom White. I think it’s safe to say a small mix up happened 😂. I’m not mad about it though! I get excited every time I see new buds starting on this variety, it’s always a little different. Since it was a mislabel, I’m not entirely sure what variety it is but my Google skills have led me to believe it might be Wine Eyed Jill. What do you think?

Some summer arranging.

If you would have asked me previously if I liked arranging with spring flowers or summer flowers more, I would have said ‘spring flowers hands down’. Now I’m not so sure 😬. I’m really loving the mix of vibrant and soft tones, and the texture that these summer flowers bring. Pictured here are some Walnut Creek subscription flowers and custom orders that went out this week.

A weekly recap in no particular order: Summer subscriptions and custom orders, travelling flowers to the big city, constantly evolving gardens, and my new favourite dahlia Ferncliff Rusty with her closeup in pic 7 (although I see my first seniors hope bloom and my first bud on my Salish Girl! So stay tuned to hear if it is dethroned 👑)

Have you seen a Viceroy caterpillar before?! (At least, that is what Google tells me this is). I hadn’t. These are probably the neatest caterpillars I’ve seen. They have ‘fleshy’ horns and the colouring is designed to look like bird p**p. Are they chewing away at one of my willows? Yes, but only one. We will continue to co-exist 😊🐛

Andrew and I managed to sneak away for a night at my family’s cottage on Sunday. It was perfect timing after the whirlwind of the garden tour on Saturday and while we are waiting for some of our summer flowers to peak for our summer subscriptions to start next week.

We got back last night with just enough time to do a quick garden check in the last of the light.

Picture 2: I can’t get tired of the colours of this Rosemary Harkness rose

Picture 3: my David Austin Lady of Shallot rose is onto her second flush of blooms of the season

Picture 4: a new Floret Zinnia… she is a lavender toned beauty. I will definitely be saving seed from this plant for next year.

Picture 5: my Scoop Scabiosa is producing lots of stems, and vase life on our test blooms is better than the variety I grow from seed. It’s made it onto my must grow list moving forward!

Wow, what a day! We had so much fun talking to everyone who attended our stop on the 2024 Campbellford and District Horticultural Society’s Garden Tour today. The turnout exceeded our expectations, thank you so much to everyone who attended. We had many great conversations and questions - We love talking flowers!

The Society provided us with a guest book for people to sign, and people wrote some really wonderful things.

“Beautiful”
“So many new plants to me”
“Exceeded expectations”
“Andrew is very knowledgeable and handsome, great tour guide”… 😏

Now it’s time to rest. Happy weekend everyone 😊

Exciting news! This Saturday we will be a stop on the Campbellford and District Horticultural Societies annual garden tour!

What does that mean? Well, you can purchase a passport from the society (sold at local businesses) that allows you access to tour 7 local gardens. The aim is to help raise money for the society and show off the amazing gardens in our local community!

We have been busy weeding, cleaning up, and making signs to show off our little slice of gardening heaven. So if you haven't done so already, pick up a passport and come on out! We will be here to answer questions and show folks around.

Some of the plants you can expect to see here....
