Reposted 👏• Phase Two of our Upper Beaches deep energy retrofit is complete! We announced the start of this phased project at the end of August last year and, once the snow disappeared to give us unfettered access to the side walkway, the extension of the exterior insulation and cladding was able to happen. The result is seamless: completing an exterior transformation that we completed way back in 2014 (Phase One) with a large front dormer addition and partial exterior retrofit. In Phase Two, during the winter months, our team worked in the main floor and basement of this home to continue the air barrier and interior insulation work we began 12 years ago, upgrading the windows with and , and completely transforming the main floor, the stairs to the second floor, and the entryway into the home. Our Upper Beaches Phased Retrofit may not be the largest or most glorious of our projects, but the result is a much more functional main floor space and substantial savings on future energy bills. Could there be a Phase Three in the offing 12 years hence, sometime in 2038? Hmmm...

Representing we educated individuals on the passive house standard reducing energy consumption by 90% by utilizing passive house design and construction techniques and high-performance performance materials! @475.supply

We created a small airtightness simulation called the SIGA Cube giving individual a visual understanding of the importance of airtightness with our retrotec blower door

Reposted..we love seeing this action 👏 • Site tour day with students! We were thrilled to host a dozen or so renovation students from George Brown College today at our Annex retrofit project, located just a short walk away from the Casa Loma campus. Today students saw first-hand the serious complexities and frustrations of phasing retrofit work on multiple floors in a century home. This renovation features a complete window replacement with triple-glazed windows, a move to an all-electric HVAC system to get off of natural gas, a building envelope upgrade to about 60% of the home, various bits and pieces of structural work, and a complete gut third floor retrofit with a new bathroom. Once we’re done, the old (and frequently delaminating) plaster will match seamlessly with the new walls, as will the hundred-year old trim.

Almost every wall and interface on this project requires our team to problem solve and be creative. This is a project that is most definitely NOT for the faint of heart. It takes a great team, a lot of patience, and a considerable amount of client/builder trust to navigate.

Completion is expected this summer...hopefully a few weeks before our clients are due to have their first child!
