There is so much to learn in this season if we watch carefully.🌚
Some plants faded away with the first hint of winter... But some bold beauties stand strong.
If you are thinking about how you might start growing year round, then take a look in your garden at what is trying to survive. Then focus your attention on those plants.
As cool as winter tomatoes are- stretching out an extra month of herbs, cabbage and peas is a more manageable first step 💚💛🤍

Still finding little treasures in the garden as we slowly slip into Autumn.
Have I told you how much I love Fall!? Like, a LOT.🤎❤️🧡💛
But this year seems to be hitting me a bit differently, if I'm being honest.
I think it's maybe because I still feel like I have more to do in the garden.
More to grow, more to show you...
But it will have to wait, I guess.
My gardening motto has always been-
"There's always next year..." 😅
And so, once again, I find myself muttering that to myself as I start planning for next season and all the wonders to come!

Peppers are so fun to grow.
💚They are beautiful plants all on their own.
💛Happily grow in containers in the sunniest spot you've got.
❤️Come in all flavours, shapes and sizes.
But for years I wasn't able to get them started from seed, because I wasn't giving them enough heat or sunlight.
So if you are dreaming of pepper paradise next year, make sure you have a setup with grow lights and a heat mat.
Once they get started they are pretty easy going, and well worth it!

Where are all my other autumn lovers at!?

There are four kids in this house so we go through a TON of Nachos. Do you love nachos too?
It really is a staple. 🧀
But my favorite part of the 'garden nachos' that we make is the random stuff from the garden that I throw on top.
Like chives and tomatoes (obviously) but also garlic scapes, peppers, cabbage and bunching onions.
The garden keeps the kitchen interesting.

Blackberries. The original instigator.
When we first moved to Nova Scotia I was still very disconnected from my food. I was trying to support local farmers and eat more seasonally, but I still didn't really know where food came from.
Not really.
And then we bought this old place that had once (many moons ago 🌚) been home to a lovely garden. Including... You guessed it... BLACKBERRIES.
I had never eaten a blackberry before. Why would I!? The berry corner is pretty well represented by the golden three- straw, rasp and blue.🍓
But these volunteer blackberries opened my mind to a world of new flavours. That could be grown right in my own backyard!!!
And I will be forever thankful.

I started growing beets to use for natural dye 💜 but I quickly discovered that this plant has SO much more to offer.
Currently obsessed with beet greens in my banana, berry smoothies. They are super rich in nutrients and PRETTY too!
