Happy Father’s Day from Walker Greenhouses.

Today we’re celebrating Glenn.

Alongside Kathy, he has spent years building Walker Greenhouses into the place so many families visit each spring and summer.

From planting and watering to helping customers choose the right trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables, there’s a lot of hard work that happens behind the scenes long before the gates open each day.

Many of you know Glenn as the friendly face ready to answer a gardening question, load a tree into your vehicle, or stop for a chat while you’re walking through the greenhouse.

His passion for growing things, helping others succeed, and creating a welcoming place for the community is a big part of what makes Walker Greenhouses feel like home to so many people.

Today we’d like to wish Glenn, and all the fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, and father figures in our community, a very Happy Father’s Day.

And if you’re spending the day in the garden, our Father’s Day Weekend Sale is still happening:

TREE PLANTING IN THE PEACE REGION

One of the questions we hear most often is:

"Is it too late to plant a tree?"

The short answer is no.

With the cooler temperatures and regular rain we've been receiving, conditions have actually been excellent for planting trees and shrubs.

The key is making sure they receive a good deep watering after planting and continuing to water them regularly through their first season.

A few quick tips for success:

• Dig a hole about twice as wide as the root ball.
• Plant at the same depth as it was growing in the pot.
• Water deeply after planting.
• Add mulch around the base to help retain moisture.
• Keep an eye on watering during hot, dry periods.

Fruit trees, shade trees, ornamental trees, shelterbelt trees, and flowering trees can all be planted successfully at this time of year.

We've also had a lot of questions about fruit trees, and yes, now is still a great time to get them established.

Current tree selection includes:

🍎 Apple Trees
• Honeycrisp
• Red Sparkle
• Norkent
• Zestar
• September Ruby
• Goodland
• Harcourt
• Hardy Mac
• Multi-Grafted Apples

🍒 Cherry Trees
• Evans Sour
• Cupid
• Juliet
• Romeo
• SK Carmine Jewel
• Valentine

🌸 Ornamental & Flowering Trees
• Ornamental Crabapple
• Mount Royal Purple Plum
• Flowering Crabapple Varieties

🌳 Shade & Landscape Trees
• Maple Trees
• Ash Trees
• Swedish Columnar Aspen
• Tower Poplar
• Paper Birch
• Bur Oak
• Linden
• Russian Olive

🌿 Specialty Trees
• Northern Fountain Willow
• Weeping Cutleaf Willow
• Prairie Reflection Willow
• Schubert Chokecherry
• Mancana Ash
• European Mountain Ash
• Showy Mountain Ash

If you're unsure which tree is best for your yard, acreage, shelterbelt, privacy screen, or fruit production goals, stop by and ask.

We're always happy to help you find the right fit for our Northern BC growing conditions.

The weather lately has been pretty close to perfect for planting.

A mix of sunshine, cooler evenings, and steady rain has made it a great time to get trees and shrubs established before the heat of summer really kicks in.

And right now, the yard is full.

We have a huge selection of trees and shrubs available, whether you’re planting for privacy, shelterbelts, shade, landscaping, colour, or finally finishing that yard project you’ve been thinking about for years.

There’s something special about planting things that will keep growing long after the season is over.

Stop by the greenhouse, take a walk through the yard, and see what’s new.

With wedding season, graduations, anniversaries, birthdays, and end-of-school celebrations coming up, we thought we’d share a few gift ideas that leave a lasting impression.

A flowering tree for an anniversary.

A hanging basket for Mom or Grandma.

Perennials for the friend who’s always working in the garden.

Fresh herbs and veggie plants for someone starting their first backyard garden.

A gift card for the person who loves wandering the greenhouse and picking out their own plants.

Some gifts are enjoyed for a moment.
Others grow year after year.

And after a long Northern BC winter, adding a little colour, greenery, and life back into someone’s yard can mean more than people realize.

If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift this season, stop by the greenhouse and we’d be happy to help you find something special.
