Last year the homeowner wanted a rustic whitewash look.

After I rebuilt the top few courses as well as corner bricks, The new flashing top (custom made by Esther's Sheet Metal) l installed will take care of the water problem they had. Then to make the brick stand out just a little I painted some black. The final step was to do a masonry smear coat on top.

I returned to the site recently to make sure that the white was not stained and it's still looking beautiful.

Energy Top Dampers are attractive to homeowners. They attach to the top of the chimney’s flue tile liner with a tight fit to increase energy efficiency. They are spring loaded and open by pulling the chain. A stainless steel cable comes down so you can open it from below

On the chimney I've shared a photo of I also added a custom fabricated flashing top from Esther's Sheet Metal.

This Chilliwack homeowner reached out because the chimney needed it's protective top restored after a gas fireplace installation.

I installed a custom flashing pan fabricated at Esther's Sheet Metal in Burnaby. The final step is waterproofing the brick on a dry day in September.

Chimney rebuild; roof up

The Burnaby homeowners reached out because the chimney brick was very deteriorated, past the point of minor repairs. The homeowners were proactive as they were not yet experiencing any water issues, but justifiably concerned about this.

We set up scaffolding, removed the old chimney to the roofline, and disposed of the brick (recycled at Bailey Transfer Station in Chilliwack to become road base). The chimney was rebuilt with good quality salvaged brick. New counter flashing was made by Esther's Sheet Metal and hooded concrete chimney pot from Canex was installed. The final step was waterproofing to protect the brick and extend the life of the new chimney.

This factory built chimney had a chimney fire. As a result it needed to be replaced with new pipe. In order to maintain clearance to combustible requirements, with the help of the customer we built a box at the roofline to extend the chimney away from the house.

In the "before" picture of the inside of the pipe, you can see that it is buckled and separated due to the fire. In the other "before" picture, you can see the melted roof tar on the pipe indicating that clearance to combustibles was previously not met.

Special mention to JC fireplace in Chilliwack and Northwest Stoves Ltd in Abbotsford for the materials.

What a hidden gem!

The homeowner contacted us as there were moisture issues with this chimney, and they could hear chunks of mortar falling. Upon investigation we found that water had gotten between the stucco and the brick chimney, and there was evidence of water damage in the basement. The stucco was cracked, and coming off in sheets, and the chimney needed to be rebuilt from the shoulder up.

Due to the degree of water damage, some of the brick was unusable however, fortunately we were able to use salvaged brick from a neighbour. An overgrout technique was used to complement the brick and the different colours look eye-catching together.

All that's left now is to wait for a sunny day to complete the waterproofing, and this chimney will last for many years to come.

Following some renovations to their garage door, the homeowner wanted to match their original 1980s homestead style brick. While the original brick was full size (no longer available), these 1/2" thick brick veneers were a very close match. (Credit goes to the contractor who chose the veneer colour.)

This 40 to 50 year old concrete block chimney needed some repairs. The homeowner noted some moisture issues and there were pieces of stucco falling off on to the sidewalk below.

Repairs included stucco patching, repointing, new metal flashing top, new counter flashing at roofline, new chimney pot and fresh paint. The above issues are resolved.
