This recently purchased Bayfield cottage was a mix of brown, yellow, green and blue. These customers wanted a consistent colour throughout (Greek Villa) and some fresh colours on their doors.

I’ll be back in better weather to paint some exterior trim, window frames and doors. This was a nice quiet week and a worthwhile project.

Going from darker colours to lighter will often require a full prime coat plus two colour coats, or three coats of the new colour, even with Benjamin Moore.

Eggshell sheen everywhere except the bathroom, where we chose Aura Bath and Spa Matte. I’ve been using a fair bit of the Bath and Spa paint lately. The fumes aren’t great, but the finished effect is excellent, especially on walls with some minor imperfections as the matte sheen makes those imperfections less visible.

Grey is out! At least, that’s what I’m hearing. These Bayfield customers felt that their main floor felt cold and blah. We went with Swiss Coffee colour which has warmer undertones, and is cleaner/brighter.

Two bedrooms, one office, one bathroom, two hallways, one laundry room, kitchen/livingroom/diningroom and a two fresh coats on the large basement ceiling. The customers were very pleased and even found that their carefully curated decor and furniture looked even better with the new colour!

I was also spoiled, daily, with the best lattes I’ve ever had! This was a very enjoyable job for some excellent customers.

This customer (my wife) wanted a brighter, cleaner family bathroom.

Removing the old tiles from the walls was tedious and caused a fair bit of damage to the drywall. Some sections required new drywall to be patched in, other areas were able to be skim coated.
The floor tiles were installed improperly and mostly cracked or loose, so those were removed as well as the added layer of plywood underneath.

The old vanity had a rounded top, which added two inches of depth. The new (used) vanity has a straight top but otherwise has the same dimensions , so we gain two inches of space. Not much but I’ll take it.

New LVP waterproof floor to withstand all of the splashing from energetic bath-times, taller baseboard, new door and window casing, new mirror (wayfair), new (used) vanity light, fresh paint (walls are Hawthorn Yellow, Benjamin Moore Bath and Spa Matte), some plumbing adjustments, custom cut pine slat wall behind toilet, reseated toilet on new wax ring, custom fruit towel hooks and lots of other odds and ends.

So much brighter and cleaner!

The customer (my wife) is quite pleased with the results, and when the customer is happy, I’m happy. I’m glad that the bath is in service again because the kids were starting to get a bit funky.

Also if you couldn’t tell, the theme is “fruit”.

This large deck and set of stairs near Goderich was due for some TLC. Exposed lumber requires upkeep, especially near the lake. Moisture, sand and shade all contribute to wear and algae/mildew growth. This deck was a multi-day project that needed a solid scrubbing and a mildew/algae treatment, followed by another scrub and wash. Once the deck was fully dry again, two coats of penetrating sealer were applied.
This treatment will extend the life of the deck with the added aesthetic benefit of making it look new again!
Great weather and a great view during this project.

This was quite a job! The old floor had rotted out, mostly due to an ongoing toilet leak.
The old floor was removed and the bathroom was treated for mold. Drywall repairs, a creative subfloor solution, new floors, shower removed and reinstalled, new floor, new trim, fresh paint, new toilet and vanity. What a difference!
These customers were ecstatic with the result, and also very happy to stop worrying about putting their foot through the floor when nature calls.

This Bayfield customer wanted to brighten up their living space on the main floor. Those large walls above a stairwell can be a real pain!
I started with repairing half a dozen holes in the basement walls and quickly moved upstairs to repaint the entry, living room, hallway, dining room and kitchen. The previous owner did a beautiful job with all of the real maple trim and casing, which requires extra care when cutting in.

With free access to an espresso machine and the company of a good pup, this job was wrapped up in under a week. When the customer is happy, I am happy.

This Clinton customer had many wall imperfections they wanted repaired, and a refresh of their main floor and basement. They had company coming for Christmas and wanted everything looking sharp. Everything was put back in place and cleaned up well before the holiday break, despite the weather’s best effort to keep me snowed in.
I really enjoyed working for this customer, and will be back there in the spring to touch up some exterior door frames that require warmer weather.

A refreshed basement to start the new year! These Goderich customers wanted a full repaint of their basement stairwell, rec room, bedroom, trim, ceilings and some minor drywall repairs. They brought me a hot coffee every morning which meant even greater speed in getting this project completed and cleaned up in less than a week. I try to do my cutting in BEFORE multiple coffees to ensure a steady hand.
I always keep a tiny craft paintbrush on hand for those pesky areas like the one above the bedroom window. This was a fun project for some very nice customers!

This garden shed needed some TLC. Loose solid stain was scraped, algae/mildew killed and primed, fresh coats of solid stain, 2 coats of exterior low-lustre for the door, old rotten porch removed, larger fresh porch installed.

Lookin’ so fine I wish it was mine!

This shed outside of Bayfield still has some good years left in it, so it needed some rotting siding replaced, peeling solid stain scraped off, and two fresh coats to seal it back up. The siding was not a standard size, so I had to remove all of the siding up to where the rot stopped, reinstall the pieces that were still in good shape, and locate some new siding that was compatible to finish off the wall.
Some of the corner and door trim was rotten, as well as a few pieces on the cottage windows, so I custom cut some new pieces and stained it all to match.
If you’ve seen prices of what it costs to buy a new shed these days, then you know it’s a good idea to maintain what you have!

Satisfying job for some great customers.
