Grounds Person / Arborist Assistant – Telegraph Tree Services (Cowichan Valley)
Telegraph Tree Services, an established arboriculture company with over 15 years of operation in the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver island, is seeking a Grounds Person / Arborist Assistant to support daily tree care operations.
Employment Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $25–$32/hour (dependent on experience) + performance-based bonuses
Key Responsibilities:
• Assist in tree removal and pruning operations as part of a 2–3 person crew
• Perform rigging support, brush handling, chipping, and site cleanup
• Safely operate ground-based equipment (e.g., chainsaws, chippers)
• Maintain safe work zones in accordance with industry standards
• Communicate professionally with clients on-site when required
• Support vehicle and equipment maneuvering, including backing and positioning
Minimum Requirements:
• Previous experience in tree service, arboriculture, or landscaping preferred
• Physically capable of sustained manual labour in outdoor environments
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
• Demonstrated reliability and punctuality
• Ability to follow instructions and work within a team-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with chainsaw operation and safety procedures
• Basic pruning and hedging knowledge
• Experience with equipment handling and vehicle maneuvering
• Familiarity with safe work practices in arboriculture settings
PPE Requirements:
• Chainsaw protective pants
• CSA-approved steel-toe boots
• High-visibility clothing
(All other PPE provided)
Career Development:
Successful candidates may progress into Junior Climber or Bucket Truck Operator roles based on demonstrated performance, safety awareness, and technical ability.

Well… this was a first for us! 😲

We got an early morning call about a car that had gone off the road and completely sheared a massive hedge tree right at the base! Talk about unexpected!

No worries though — we immediately shifted our schedule, and our amazing crew was on-site by 11AM ready to tackle the mess.
