Old Buffalo Tree Farm specializes in growing hardy Colorado blue spruce. To grow such hardy trees we Located 10 kilometers north of Cochrane, Alberta.

Old Buffalo Tree Farm is a third generation farm that began in the 1970's. Currently managed by Old's College educated arborists Ben and Emily who have been a part of residential and municipal tree pruning and removal in Saskatchewan Alberta and British Colombia. All trees are grown and pruned within the Canadian Nursery Stock Standards. This includes root pruning and/or transplanting for the purp

ose of containing roots to the area that will be dug for transplant. This way, transplant shock is reduced. Canadian Nursery Stock Standards are also followed for container and root ball size. All trees and shrubs are field grown and potted or field grown and balled and burlapped. Smaller trees are hand dug and placed in a container and larger caliper trees are dug with our skid steer mounted tree spade. Trees and shrubs are sold for pickup only, and time may be required for trees and shrubs to be dug. Large caliper trees can be loaded onto flatbed trailers or trucks at your request.

Besides trees we also have firewood! It’s primarily poplar and spruce/pine and we have A LOT! So whether your going camping a need a face cord or need to heat your home for the winter with multiple cords, we’ve got you covered!

It’s a good thing we started spreading mulch when we did. This heat has been hard on our trees but the mulch definitely helps retain some moisture.. now we just have to keep up with watering and keeping the weeds down!

Ben fixed the skid steer and tree spade over the winter and we finally got to test it out yesterday! We’re excited to see how many trees we can dig this summer! Check out our website to see the different sizes that are available.

This new snow has us dreaming of warmer days.. even if that means pulling weeds in the seedling bed. We get our seedlings from a nursery in the States that transplants them at a higher elevation for 2 years. This higher elevation helps the trees thrive when they’re brought to our cold Alberta climate.
