Our next meeting is coming up Tuesday, June 16 at 7pm upstairs in the Keeler Centre, Colborne. Featured speaker will be Nicholas Reynolds of Lower Trent Conservation. Nicholas will speak about the role that healthy and unique environments in our gardens and in watershed areas play in managing natural hazards like flooding and soil erosion. UPDATE:
If you have perennials to donate to the club please drop them off at 1176 Ontario St. Colborne. You’ll see a trailer beside the driveway. Thank you!

At this time of year sore backs and dirt under the nails is a good thing. And it’s been our collective story these week as your local garden club preps for our annual Plant Sale! I’ve been digging out some black-eyed Susan’s from this garden (picture from previous year) and will bring them along Saturday. Come early for the best selection. Our sale starts at 8:30, cash only, pwyc in Victoria Square, Colborne. Apple Blossom Tyme Festival will also be happening in the square, so it’ll be a lively and super fun day! See you then. Okay, back to digging.

First of all, thank you to everyone who came out Tuesday to hear Carson Arthur talk about community gardening. I think it was an eye-opening event for all of us and as we plant our veggie gardens I know many of us will lay in a little extra. We can all do our part to help one another.
These days your garden club is busy digging and separating for our annual plant sale. We’ll have lots of great plants for you to add to your gardens! Be sure to stop by, perhaps while you’re out enjoying the Apple Blossom Tyme Festival. It promises to be a great day for all!

Happening Tuesday!
Our next meeting will feature the return of Carson Arthur. Carson’s spent the last couple of decades working with gardeners across the country. His various media appearances have focused on gardening, homesteading and urban farming. May 19th Carson will be our special guest as he speaks to the importance of growing food for our community. He’ll address things like supply chain issues, agricultural changes in Canada, the changing climate and the importance of sustainability. Let’s get together and talk about community gardening and supporting people right here in the process. We all stand to benefit and we can make a difference.
Join us Tuesday, May 19th at 7pm upstairs at the Keeler Centre. Everyone is welcome, please bring a non-perishable food item for the Colborne food bank.

It’s the great winter pastime for most gardeners: planning for spring! Among your purchases in the coming months will no doubt be bagged soil. But do you really know what’s in those bags? Does the billion dollar soil industry want you to know? Next Tuesday, we bring in author, landscape designer and gardening expert Carson Arthur to talk about soil. The Dirt on Dirt! Tuesday, Jan 20 at 1:30pm, upstairs at the Keeler Centre, 80 Division St S., Colborne. Guests are always welcome and members, we’ll see you then!
