Gnomes are well-known symbols of good luck. Thought to provide protection, especially of buried treasure and mineral rich land. They are still used today to watch over crops and livestock, often tucked into the rafters of a barn or placed in the garden.

History dates back originating in Germany, where they were sculpted from clay. Garden gnomes traveled into the gardens of England in 1840, where they gained popularity. Manufacturing slowed during tough times amid wars and re-emerged in the 1960s in a new plastic form.

A garden gnome adds a whimsical connection to the old world. One of the simpler times where farmers believed the good luck charm could help their fields yield more produce and protect them from thieves, pests, and other issues. They were also thought to help gardeners in the night, watching over and standing guard while the rest of the world slept.

I have boxes of these little characters that I spread out over my garden. They add some fun to my space. My crops flourish because of their well controlled environment with the help of a TrollMaster and the nutrients I feed them rather than purely the luck of the gnome. Experience might help too ๐
