I am extremely happy with our Ford Transit Van! We routinely make trips to greater Vancouver from Vancouver Island to pick up freight. Just one shipment from Vancouver by a freight carrier would cost us between $400 and $700. Not only that but our products would have to be packaged at an extra cost of $100-$300 per order and then we would have to unpack everything and dispose and recycle all of it. In some cases, the process of unpacking materials takes over an hour for two people.
When I was looking for a new work vehicle, I considered what would work best for our products and workflow. Round trip to the lower mainland with our work van cost about $600 including my time fuel and ferry costs. Every week I go over there and pick up material for 4 to 6 projects. The savings per trip is about $2100, so our company saves about $1500 every time I go over to pick up freight. Aside from the savings on the freight, my suppliers, don’t have to waste time and resources, packaging each project and we don’t have to waste time and resources. Unpacking it. Not only that, but we save all the impact on the environment. Because of this our costs are much lower than our competitors, our suppliers give us priority because it’s much easier to sell to us and we avoid damage to our products that occasionally occurs in transit. Most importantly, we supply our customers quickly and efficiently at a reasonable price.
I have made trips as far as Concord, Ontario, and Baldwin Park, California to pick up materials with this van and my trailer. On those long trips, I put a mattress in the back so that I can pull over when I’m tired and grab a quick nap. Once loaded I just put the mattress on top of the freight. I can’t say enough about the Ford transit!!!
