Over the last couple of years I’ve been helping School District 71 upgrade the NIDES building north of Courtenay. The gym recladding is almost complete. I decided to use standard grade framing lumber as vertical wood cladding with a pre-weathered stain. That, plus super clean lines and details gives a nice fresh look.

Recently completed waterfront home near Miracle Beach. A bit different from other houses on the road, this place has minimal impact on the street but expands as it runs the length of the property towards the ocean. With two courtyards, four wings, and a long central connecting corridor, this house gave the owners something they weren’t expecting.
I’ll post a few more images next week.

The owner gave me a once in a lifetime chance to do a self guided tour of this incredible design by the late world renowned Canadian Architect Arthur Erickson. Photographs do not do this place justice. His sense of spatial relationships to both interior and exterior is otherworldly. The Filberg House, in Comox, was one of Erickson’s first residential projects. Yes, the finishes may appear dated (1960’s) but the design is timeless. I will be back. More later.
