Pansy Appreciation Post
I am getting more obsessed with pansies… (ok I was already midly obsessed..

I’ve got jolly jump ups galore in the back volunteering, but decided that in the front I am going to keep pulling the more common small purples and encouraging pinks and frills and soft yellows.

It’s iris season!!

My shorties have bloomed and faded, my low mediums too. My mediums are at the end of their blooming and now these talls are starting to show off!
And still a couple more to open!

Starting to play around with the idea of offering a small number of cut carnivorous plants, mostly sarracenia, for folks to add to their bouquets.

Thoughts? Local interest? Silly idea?

For now I’ll bring this to the Cumberland Marker tomorrow, feel free to stop and say hello,l! These will be available as individual stems. Some of the flowers won’t hold as well as others given they are nearing their end on the plant but the foliage last in a vase for a while.

My table is close to the bakery. I figure I could t have a better location than that!

I feel like I post about the abutilon (flowering maple) often, but it literally amazes me everyday while it’s blooming… this is a tree/shrub that hangs out along a fence.

We have not pruned it much ever (I need to go in and take out some dead stuff, and have done small bits like that but no pruning to shape and honestly I am loving it’s chaotic growth spilling in every direction. I’ll have to read up on how to prune for the heath of the plant so I can keep it healthy.

I noticed another that we have that we started from seed is starting to bloom too. I think we had bought that seed so didn’t know what to expect, white or purples.

Anyway, when I look out our back windows as the sun sets, this looks like it’s glowing.

Hardy ish, doesn’t handle those -15c so well, especially when those cold winds come through.

Hope everyone has been getting in some garden time!

The garden changes so much every few days… I feel like if I blink I might miss something.

Irises starting to bloom, the redbud buds have opened and columbine are showing off. Some tulips have finished, while others are just getting started. Camas flowers are opening, starting low and making their way up the stalk, and garden munchers come out in the evening to take advantage of the cool evening.

A tale of two red buds…. And an abutilon, and a Rhodo, and finally my favourite pansy I’ve seen in my garden from a week or so ago.

The red buds we put in last year, so they aren’t filled with these lil bud flowers. they are looking so good, otherwise, and I can’t wait to see this first one, (hard to see in this light but has more pink bud flowers) called Rising Sun, leaf out. The other, I can’t remember the name of at the moment, has slightly more purple flowers and will have purple leaves.

Just a little of what is happening over here.

Hope everyone is having a lovely spring! (Condolences to you prairie folk, I’m sure the snow won’t last long)

We finally added a witch hazel to the garden last summer. And here she is blooming for us!

A lil look at my Gnome-tastic Christmas tree. I added a couple mushrooms and a couple more sweet Gnomes to the bunch this year.

I also found this lil garland tree to use at my market table, and now that they are over for the season, it’s perfect for the unintentionally accumulated vintage mini Santa’s.

I’m late to the decorating for the season game, but I’ll probably leave this all up until the tree really dries out, well into mid January.
