Most of the last 20 years or so, I have enjoyed a white snowy Christmas, this year, in contrast, we are celebrating a marine, mossy and fungally rich one. This morning we were first gifted by the sound of sea lions bellowing, followed by 3 orcas breaching and then humpback whales hunting for fish just off the coast of Galiano, what a great morning! Our fungal highlight was relatively abundant hedgehog mushrooms that will soon be featured at our feast. I wish all my friends a happy and peaceful Christmas or alternatively whatever else you choose to celebrate!

Being out in the field always brings with it some interesting finds. Like this mud wasp colony discovery beneath old chimney sheathing. PPE comes in handy in ways that you’re not always prepared for.

Meet: Geoffrey.

Geoffrey is our EK lab manager and lives in Kimberley! He comes from a head chef background where he gained experience leading teams and working as a cohesive unit.

In his spare time, Geoffrey can be found exploring the Southeast Kootenay region by biking, running, skiing, sledding, and camping.

Geoffrey is NIOSH 582 Equivalency certified, and recently completed PCM training in Detroit. With another member of the KHM team with PCM certification, we are able to better service our clients with more in-house capacity and expertise.

Super stoked to have Geoffrey on our team!

Meet Pollen!

Pollen is a field technician for the East Kootenay Region. Pollen is certified as a Hazardous Materials Building Inspector (HMBI) and conducts a variety of sampling and monitoring for KHM.

In his spare time, Pollen is an avid freestyle skier and enjoys exploring the mountains of BC!
